Rachel Maddow Unleashes Scathing Critique of Trump-Musk Doge Venture as Tesla Profits Plunge 71%
Last night, Rachel Maddow delivered a blistering monologue that left viewers stunned and MAGA Twitter in meltdown. In her unflinching assessment of the Trump-Musk Doge venture, Maddow didn’t mince words—calling the fallout “bruising,” “repulsive,” and “a catastrophe” for Tesla, its investors, and ordinary Americans.
As headlines flashed across the screen—“Tesla Profits Plunge,” “Tesla Earnings Fall 71%,” “Tesla Sales Skid”—Maddow broke down the numbers behind the disaster. Tesla was expected to earn 41 cents per share, but delivered only 27 cents. Last year’s $1.4 billion first-quarter profit shrank to just $400 million this year. And even that figure was padded by interest on investments and the sale of emission credits, not actual car sales. Without those financial lifelines, Tesla would have posted a $600 million loss.

Maddow zeroed in on the Cybertruck, Elon Musk’s pet project, which she called “the biggest disaster of all.” Sales of the futuristic vehicle dropped 50% from the previous quarter, adding insult to injury for a company already reeling.
But Maddow didn’t stop at the numbers. She laid the blame squarely at Musk’s feet—and at President Trump’s. The backlash against Musk’s “far-right causes” and his opaque, Trump-appointed government role, she argued, has sent Tesla’s reputation and profits into freefall. “The country really does appear to be just repulsed by President Donald Trump installing Musk, his top campaign donor, in a secretive, totally opaque, newly created pseudo agency,” Maddow said.

She painted a vivid picture of the real-world consequences: fired park rangers, defunded cancer researchers, disabled Americans struggling at understaffed Social Security offices, and life-saving health programs abruptly cut off. All, Maddow claimed, were casualties of Musk’s and Trump’s reckless policies.
The protests, Maddow noted, are growing—and they’re getting under Musk’s skin. From Cloquet to Austin, Minnesota, hundreds rallied outside libraries and public buildings, demanding protection for Social Security and denouncing Musk’s dismissive comments about the program. “Hands off our money!” protesters chanted, furious at the suggestion that their hard-earned benefits were nothing more than a “Ponzi scheme.”
Maddow concluded with a call to action, echoing the rallying cry of those fed up with the chaos: “How do we stop this travesty? What can we do?” The answer, she said, is simple: Stand up, speak out, and demand accountability.
As Tesla’s profits nosedive and public outrage intensifies, one thing is clear: the Trump-Musk experiment is failing spectacularly—and everyday Americans are paying the price.
