A mother is expressing her heartfelt gratitude after Taylor Swift made an extraordinary $100,000 donation to help her 2-year-old daughter, Laya, who is battling stage 4 cancer.
Caitlyn Smoo shared her emotional reaction after discovering the pop superstar’s generous contribution to their GoFundMe page.

“My husband called me from the airport and said, ‘Taylor Swift just donated $100,000,’” Caitlyn recalled. “I thought he was joking. Then I saw it — her name, her message — and tears just started streaming down my face.”
Laya’s Diagnosis and Swift Connection
Laya was diagnosed with ATRT, a rare and aggressive grade-four brain tumor, after suffering a seizure at just 18 months old. Heartbreakingly, Caitlyn was in labor with her newborn son when she learned her daughter had been rushed to the emergency room.
Despite the difficult diagnosis, music became a powerful source of comfort — especially Taylor Swift’s. Caitlyn, who attended the Eras Tour while pregnant with Laya, said her daughter has loved Taylor’s songs since birth.
Earlier this year, Caitlyn shared a video of Laya dancing to Swift’s “The Fate of Ailia” music video. In the clip, the toddler sweetly points to the screen and says, “That’s my friend!” The video went viral, capturing hearts — including, apparently, Taylor’s.

The Moment Taylor Gave Back
Soon after, the Swift donation appeared on their GoFundMe page. At first, Caitlyn and her husband couldn’t believe it was real.
“We spent an hour debating if it was actually her,” Caitlyn said. “Who else would donate $100,000? Once we saw it process on the back end, we knew it was real — and I just sat there crying.”
The singer’s generosity sparked a wave of kindness across the internet, as Swifties rushed to donate and share the family’s story.
“We’ve now raised nearly $350,000,” Caitlyn revealed. “I can’t even believe I’m saying that.”
A Little Girl’s Spirit — and a Mom’s Hope
Though Laya is still undergoing radiation treatment, her mom says she’s full of life and joy.
“She’s running through the halls, climbing on everything,” Caitlyn said. “Even though radiation is supposed to make her tired, she’s the opposite. Her energy keeps us going.”
Caitlyn says she hasn’t heard directly from Taylor or her team — but she doesn’t need to.
“Every time Laya sees Taylor on TV, she says, ‘That’s my friend,’” Caitlyn said, smiling. “And now I can tell her — she’s right.”
