Airport Disturbance Escalates After Man Attempts to Disarm Police Officer

An airport disturbance on June 8, 2025, escalated into a serious police confrontation after a 29-year-old man allegedly stole a traveler’s backpack and later attempted to grab a police officer’s firearm, according to authorities.

Police were first alerted to the situation after reports of a disruptive individual inside an airport lounge. Witnesses stated that the man repeatedly bumped into another traveler. After the first incident, airport staff instructed him to leave the area. However, following a second encounter, the traveler noticed that his backpack—containing valuable personal items—was missing.

Officers initially encountered the suspect and told him to leave the terminal area. Shortly afterward, they were informed that the man was still in possession of the missing backpack. Police returned and began questioning him, attempting to determine ownership of several bags located nearby.

Body-camera footage shows officers repeatedly instructing the man to sit down while they investigated the alleged theft. The suspect denied taking the backpack, insisting it belonged to him or his family. Despite officers’ efforts to de-escalate the situation, the man became increasingly argumentative, refused to comply with commands, and repeatedly stood up after being told to remain seated.

As the interaction continued, officers informed the man that he was being detained—not arrested—while they verified the bag’s ownership. The suspect appeared confused about the process and accused officers of abusing their authority. Officers also noted signs of intoxication, later confirming that alcohol played a role in his behavior.

The situation deteriorated further when police attempted to place the man in handcuffs after he continued to ignore instructions. According to officers, the suspect resisted arrest, pulling away and refusing to sit down. During the physical struggle, officers observed the man reaching toward an officer’s holstered weapon.

Body-camera audio captures officers shouting warnings as they realized the suspect had made contact with the firearm. “He’s got a gun,” one officer can be heard saying as police quickly forced the man to the ground. Officers successfully secured the weapon and restrained the suspect while calling for additional support and medical evaluation.

Police later confirmed that the man did not fire the weapon and that no officers or bystanders were seriously injured during the incident. Medical personnel were requested to evaluate the suspect due to his level of intoxication and complaints of pain during the arrest.

Following the arrest, officers located the original backpack owner, who confirmed that all belongings were still inside the bag. Authorities stated that the suspect had left the backpack unattended and appeared confused about its ownership.

The man was charged with multiple offenses, including disarming or attempting to disarm a police officer, theft, interfering with a police officer, resisting arrest, and public intoxication. Police emphasized that attempting to grab an officer’s firearm significantly escalates any encounter and presents a serious risk to everyone involved.
