New Photos Of Vanessa Bryant Are Going Viral
In recent months, Vanessa Bryant has re-emerged in the public eye, revealing a side of herself that many hadn’t seen since the tragic loss of her husband, NBA legend Kobe Bryant, and their daughter Gianna in 2020. New photos of Vanessa surfaced online in October 2024, showing her at what some tabloids labeled a “wild and spicy” party. The images, which she posted herself on Instagram, showed her smiling, dressed stylishly, and surrounded by close friends—normal photos by most standards. But because of her public identity as Kobe’s widow, these images quickly went viral, sparking intense reactions. While many applauded her for finding moments of joy again, others criticized the posts as “disrespectful,” accusing her of dishonoring Kobe’s memory.
Vanessa had spent years largely silent and private, known for her dignity and composure. Her public appearances were typically solemn, focused on honoring Kobe and Gianna’s legacy. So, seeing her joyful again, laughing and living life, felt like a significant shift. For many fans, it marked a turning point—proof of healing and growth after immense grief. As one fan wrote online, “She’s teaching her daughters a valuable life lesson,” a sentiment echoed by thousands. Others, however, expressed discomfort, arguing that Vanessa’s public happiness felt premature or inappropriate. But grief, as Vanessa has said herself, is not linear. These photos weren’t about forgetting—they were about continuing.
To fully understand why these images captured so much attention, we must look at Vanessa’s incredible journey. Born Vanessa Cornejo Urbieta in Los Angeles in 1982 to a Mexican immigrant mother, her early life was far from glamorous. Her parents divorced when she was young, and she was raised primarily by her mother, who later remarried. Vanessa’s family lived modestly, even sharing a room with relatives at one point. But Vanessa was ambitious, excelling in school and graduating with honors from Marina High School in 2000. Before she became Mrs. Kobe Bryant, she was already working in entertainment—appearing as a model and backup dancer in music videos for stars like Snoop Dogg, Tyrese, and Pharrell.
It was on the set of a music video in 1999 that she met Kobe Bryant, then 20 and already a rising NBA star. Their connection was instant, and six months later, Kobe proposed with a 7-carat diamond ring. Their relationship moved quickly—and drew criticism. Vanessa was still a high school senior, and Kobe’s family reportedly disapproved of the relationship. Despite that, the couple married in April 2001 in a small ceremony. Notably, Kobe’s parents did not attend. Still, they began building their life together, welcoming their first daughter, Natalia, in 2003, and eventually having four children.
Their marriage wasn’t without challenges. In 2003, Kobe was accused of sexual assault. He admitted to infidelity but denied assault. Vanessa stood by him during the scandal, famously wearing a $4 million “apology ring.” The incident marked a turning point in their marriage and public image. In 2011, Vanessa filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, but they reconciled in 2013, just before Kobe’s retirement from the NBA. Over time, he grew more visibly dedicated to family, particularly to coaching Gianna’s basketball dreams. Vanessa, too, took a larger role behind the scenes—supporting his business ventures and raising their daughters. Together, they launched a foundation supporting youth education and sports.
Despite maintaining a low profile, Vanessa had moments of controversy. She once accused NBA star Karl Malone of inappropriate behavior, and in 2009, a former housekeeper sued her for alleged mistreatment. Both situations fueled public debate over Vanessa’s character. Yet by the late 2010s, the Bryants appeared closer than ever. Kobe had retired, won an Oscar for his short film “Dear Basketball,” and devoted himself to fatherhood and business. Gianna was emerging as a WNBA hopeful. Then, on January 26, 2020, everything changed.
Kobe and Gianna died in a helicopter crash alongside seven others. Vanessa, who lost both her husband and daughter in a single moment, was thrust into a grief process magnified by media attention. She later revealed she learned of their deaths via phone alerts and news reports before being contacted by authorities. As if that wasn’t traumatic enough, she discovered weeks later that first responders had taken and shared graphic crash site photos. Vanessa sued Los Angeles County and won a $16 million settlement, which she donated entirely to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation—a powerful act of turning pain into purpose.
Vanessa gave a heartbreaking eulogy at the Staples Center memorial in February 2020 and slowly began rebuilding a life for her and her daughters—Natalia, Bianka, and Capri. She stepped into leadership roles, becoming CEO of Granity Studios (Kobe’s media company) and taking control of his legacy. She expanded the Mamba Foundation, launched a clothing line in Gianna’s honor, and helped advocate for helicopter safety laws. Financially, she successfully managed Kobe’s estate, including a $400 million payout from his investment in BodyArmor. Today, her net worth is estimated at $600 million.
And yet, through all this, Vanessa has remained a deeply private person. Her social media—followed by millions—offers rare glimpses into her life. She posts tributes to Kobe and Gianna, proud moments with her daughters, and occasional glimpses of personal joy. In 2021, she candidly wrote, “Grief is a messed up cluster of emotions. One day you’re laughing, the next you don’t feel like being alive.” That honesty endeared her to many, transforming her from a grieving widow into a symbol of strength and resilience.
So when those October 2024 photos emerged—Vanessa smiling, dancing, and enjoying herself—they weren’t scandalous. They were human. They were a reminder that even after unimaginable tragedy, life moves forward. And sometimes, healing looks like joy.
