Prince Harry surprised audiences and sparked laughter across social media after crashing Stephen Colbert’s monologue on The Late Show with a festive skit that quickly turned political. The Duke of Sussex made the unexpected appearance on Wednesday, December 3, delivering sharp humor, a cheeky jab at Donald Trump, and plenty of holiday-themed comedy.
The segment began with Colbert joking about America’s obsession with royal-themed Christmas movies. As he listed off fictional holiday films filled with runaway princes, cozy inns, and small-town romance, Colbert teased that such movies create unrealistic expectations that people might actually bump into royalty while at work or walking down the street.
Right on cue, Prince Harry burst onto the stage.
Harry jokingly claimed he thought he was auditioning for a fictional Hallmark-style movie titled The Gingerbread Prince Saves Christmas in Nebraska. When Colbert questioned why an actual prince would want to star in one of those films, Harry fired back with a perfectly timed cultural observation.
“You Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies,” he said, “and you’re clearly obsessed with royalty—so why not?”
Colbert pushed back playfully, insisting that Americans weren’t obsessed with royalty. Without missing a beat, Harry delivered the night’s most viral line.
“Really? I heard you elected a king.”
The audience erupted in applause and laughter as the clear reference to Donald Trump landed sharply. Even Colbert had to admit, “That’s a fair point.”
Harry continued the comedy by referencing his royal lineage, joking about his ancestor King George III before Colbert urged him to “let it go.” The bit then shifted into mock audition territory, with Harry desperately trying to convince Colbert to cast him as a prince in a holiday movie.

He rattled off his “skills” with theatrical confidence: riding horses, flying helicopters, and even riding a horse inside a helicopter. When Colbert joked that show business was all about connections and asked whether Harry knew any famous TV actresses, Harry grinned and hinted at his wife, Meghan Markle, drawing applause from the crowd.
Harry then delivered a second political swipe, volunteering to do “anything” to get the role — even joking that he would “settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House,” a clear dig at Paramount, CBS’s parent company, reportedly settling with the administration earlier in the year. The comment drew loud laughter and applause as Colbert sarcastically replied that he hadn’t done any of those things — “maybe that’s why you’re cancelled.”
The sketch escalated into full holiday parody as Christmas trees, fake snow, sleigh bells, and glowing decorations suddenly filled the stage. Colbert, maintaining his deadpan tone, insisted he wasn’t running a nonprofit bed-and-breakfast candy cane factory with three daughters named Holly, Tinsel, and Popcorn String — though he joked that he might have been, before the bank foreclosed on it last Christmas Eve.
When Harry excitedly pointed out the falling “snow,” Colbert quickly shut him down by claiming it was actually asbestos from the Ed Sullivan Theater being torn down, adding another layer of absurd humor to the sketch.
In the final moments, Colbert pretended to deny Harry the role before dramatically reversing his decision.
“I was testing you,” Colbert announced. “You’ve got the role.”
The crowd cheered as Harry was officially crowned the Late Show’s Prince of Christmas.
The entire segment blended political satire, royal self-awareness, and classic late-night comedy into one viral moment. By playfully poking fun at America’s fascination with royalty while taking a clear swipe at Trump, Prince Harry once again proved he’s willing to lean into humor, controversy, and cultural commentary — all while wearing a holiday grin.
