From Abandonment to a Loving Home: The Heartwarming Journey of Fufu the Smiling Dog

When I first encountered Fufu, I was immediately drawn to his unique high and low ears. He greeted me with a friendly demeanor and a constant smile, seemingly aware that I was taking pictures of him. Despite his struggles, he tried to pose for my camera, and his gentle nature left a lasting impression on me.

After returning home, I couldn’t stop thinking about Fufu. Determined to see him again, I drove back with some friends in search of the cheerful stray. Fortunately, we found him lying motionless by the roadside. He barely glanced up as we approached, but his spirits lifted when I promised to buy him a sausage. Hearing that I intended to take him home, Fufu became visibly happier and followed me without any hesitation.

Local residents shared that Fufu’s previous owner had moved to the city, abandoning him to fend for himself. Life as a stray had been harsh—Fufu was often bullied by other dogs and bore several wounds from fights. Thankfully, a kind-hearted man had been feeding him, ensuring he was not completely emaciated. When the man learned I was taking Fufu home, he was overjoyed to see the dog finally leaving his life as a stray behind. He even accompanied us to my car, urging me to take good care of Fufu and feeding him some ham sausages for the journey.

On the way home, Fufu behaved impeccably. At a service area, I made sure he had water to drink. We then visited the vet for a thorough checkup. The doctor discovered ear mites and worms, but thankfully found no other illnesses. Fufu was cooperative throughout, even as the vet treated bite wounds on his ears—evidence of his difficult past. Despite the pain, he never stopped smiling.

Fufu was shaved and hospitalized for further treatment. He trembled during blood tests and was uneasy in the unfamiliar environment, especially being confined to a cage. The nurses administered daily medication and injections, and soon his ears began to heal. Fufu proved to be stronger and more optimistic than I had expected.

On the fifth day, I visited Fufu with some snacks. He was overjoyed to see me and responded well to simple feeding instructions, suggesting he had received some training from his former owner. He even befriended a neighboring black dog and adapted to the hospital routine, freely moving in and out of his cage. It seemed he understood that people were trying to help him.

Two weeks later, I brought Fufu home. He quickly became a cherished member of my family, enjoying daily walks and forming a bond with my other pet dog. I named him “Fufu.” Every day, Fufu grew healthier and happier, his signature smile never fading.

Being loved has given Fufu a new lease on life. I hope he will always be happy and continue to greet each day with his infectious smile.
