Survivor Maria Farmer Calls for Accountability in Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein Abuse Case
Maria Farmer, one of the first public survivors to come forward with allegations against Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, has renewed her calls for justice and accountability in a recent televised interview, urging the media and the public not to lose sight of those most deeply affected: the survivors of abuse.
Farmer, speaking alongside her attorney Jennifer Freeman, emphasized that convicted child sex abuser Ghislaine Maxwell is “not the victim,” and demanded focus remain on the real victims—women like “Jane,” “Carolyn,” and her own sister Annie—many of whom were minors at the time of the abuse.
Farmer described the harrowing accounts heard at Maxwell’s trial, including survivors as young as 14 who were systematically abused over several years by Epstein, sometimes with Maxwell present or directly involved. Farmer also spoke about her own experience as a 25-year-old employee of Epstein in 1996, recalling a violent assault at the Ohio estate of Victoria’s Secret CEO Leslie Wexner, where she said both Epstein and Maxwell attacked her, forcing her to flee and barricade herself in another room.
She described the long-lasting trauma resulting from her time in Epstein’s circle, recounting the repeated retraumatization each time Epstein or Maxwell’s images surface across social and mainstream media. “It’s something I’ve dedicated all of my youth to exposing,” said Farmer, “not just for me, but for the victims who are no longer alive and those still suffering.”
Farmer first reported Epstein’s crimes to authorities in 1996, approaching the NYPD and later the FBI. But she says she was dismissed and ignored for years: “They just hung up, and I heard nothing for ten years.” In 2006, FBI agents recontacted her, and she provided detailed accounts implicating Maxwell as a sexual predator, including their tactics of recruiting underage girls under the guise of modeling for Victoria’s Secret. “She would say, ‘I need to go get the nubiles at 3:00 because the children were getting out of school,’” Farmer recalled.
Compounding the pain is Farmer’s ongoing battle with serious health issues, including two types of cancer, which prevented her from testifying at Maxwell’s most recent trial. “My sister did testify, as did my mother. Our stories have never changed—they are credible,” she said.
Farmer also recounted a 1995 encounter at Epstein’s New York office, where she claims Donald Trump made lewd remarks about her age and appearance; comments the White House has dismissed as “recycled old fake news.” Farmer responded, “This is not partisan. This is pedophilia. Anyone can be a pedophile.” She criticized politicians who have given voice to Maxwell, adding, “My little sister is one of her victims and so am I. This is so damaging.”
Despite decades of seeking justice and her declining health, Farmer says her mission remains clear: “I would like to have my FBI reports so I can help bring accountability to everyone. It’s not just me I’m representing—I have the weight of all the young women on my shoulders now.”
As lawsuits against government agencies for negligence continue, Farmer’s courage in coming forward and telling her story publicly has been hailed as vital to public understanding of both the case and the broader issue of institutional failures to protect survivors of sexual abuse.
