From Abuse to Hope: The Rescue of a Dog Wrongly Labeled “Mad”
Her owner thought she was a mad dog. He tied her up outside, leaving her exposed to the pouring rain all night. Desperate to escape, she howled and chewed at the rope, but there was no way out. By morning, she was cold, soaked, and utterly miserable.
The owner called us to come take a look. He claimed the dog had bitten his arm and hand and always approached her with a stick for protection. When we arrived, we carefully untied her and tried to assess her condition, all while intervening to prevent further violence from her owner.
No one truly knew what was wrong with her. We had to approach her slowly and cautiously—she was extremely wary of humans. But when we finally got close enough, we discovered the truth: she didn’t attack. She wasn’t mad at all. She only bared her teeth and lunged at her owner because he had beaten her with a stick.

We confronted the man about his abuse. He explained that she had chased and bitten his chickens, and now he no longer wanted her. Yet, he insisted on being paid for the dog, turning her suffering into an opportunity for profit. He even showed us his injured hand, hoping we’d pay more so he could get a rabies shot. His outrageous demands angered everyone present, especially when he threatened to beat her to death if we didn’t buy her.
It was heartbreaking. This man had abused, beaten, and neglected her—and now wanted to kill her for defending herself. We tried to negotiate patiently, but he refused to budge, using her safety as a bargaining chip. Everyone involved in the rescue was furious, condemning his cruelty and insisting on the dog’s innocence. Meanwhile, she sat helplessly on the ground, waiting for her fate to be decided. Her misery was completely ignored by her owner, who only wanted to squeeze the last bit of value from her.
With no other choice, we finally agreed to buy her. As soon as he got the money, he hurried us away, and we were just as eager to leave him behind. Even after being brought to safety, the dog was visibly trembling and ate with extreme caution. She was still unwell, and we hesitated to begin further treatment, fearing it would stress her even more. For now, we focused on building her trust.
She stayed in her crate, refusing to come out, the unfamiliar environment making her even more anxious. Yet, like any other dog, she craved affection. We patiently encouraged her to step out, offering her a spacious room, a soft rug, and a caring new owner. The first thing we did was give her deworming medicine, mixing it with treats to make it easier for her. Then, she enjoyed her first proper meal in her new home—she was clearly starving.
In the days ahead, we will continue to build a bond with her, hoping she will lower her guard and step out of the shadows into her new life. She now has a safe place, gentle care, and a future filled with hope—a far cry from the misery she once knew.
