Angel Reese’s 1.7 Million Lead Over Caitlin Clark Turns Heads

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark finished one vote shy of winning the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year award unanimously. The one vote Clark did not receive was given to Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.

Averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists last season, Clark led Indiana to its first playoff appearance since 2016. Reese also had a strong year, averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds, but Chicago finished last in the Eastern Conference with a 13-27 record.

While they are much different players, Clark and Reese have been tied together since the 2023 National Championship Game between LSU and Iowa.

Infamously taunting Clark in the final moments of LSU’s victory, Reese quickly became one of the most discussed athletes in sports. Her popularity has only grown since being selected No. 7 overall by Chicago in the 2024 WNBA draft.

A post trending on X recently highlighted Reese’s popularity, declaring her the face of the WNBA due her league-leading 4.8 million Instagram followers.

With 1.7 million more Instagram followers than Clark, Reese is the WNBA’s most-followed player. This post has been generating a lot of discussion among fans.

“Followers don’t bring people to the arenas, don’t make people tune into the game and watch or purchase merchandise,” claimed one fan. “The only true faces of this league is Caitlin and A’ja Wilson.”

“Instagram followers doesn’t mean your the face of the league,” another added.

“CC doesn’t care about social media and still racks up followers,” said another. “Crazy.”

“lol everyone knows this they’re just in denial,” one comment read.

“There’s levels,” a fan wrote. “Angel Reese is an icon.”
