Conner Floyd Opens Up About Chance’s ‘Y&R’ Exit and Taking on ‘Days of Our Lives’ as the New Chad DiMera

Conner Floyd has officially closed the chapter on his time as Chance Chancellor on The Young and the Restless, but the actor is far from finished making waves in the world of daytime television. In an emotional and revealing interview, Floyd spoke about his dramatic exit from Y&R and his exciting new role on Days of Our Lives as the iconic Chad DiMera.

Fans were left heartbroken during the July 28 episode of Y&R, which saw Chance die a hero’s death during a tense hostage situation. In a selfless act, Chance threw himself in front of Cane to shield him from a bullet, sacrificing his life to protect others. For Floyd, the way Chance went out was the perfect conclusion to the character’s journey.

“As sad as it is, I think that’s how Chance would want to go out,” Floyd said in an interview. “He’s always been a protector, a hero, and a man who put everyone else before himself. To die in Cane’s arms—it was emotional, poetic, and powerful.”

After portraying Chance in more than 270 episodes over nearly four years, Floyd admitted the farewell was bittersweet. “I cried like a baby when we wrapped. The final scene, the final clap-out, saying goodbye to the cast and crew—it hit me hard,” he confessed. On social media, he posted a heartfelt message to fans, saying: “It’s been real, GC. Thank you for accepting me. It’s been an honor to carry the Chancellor name.”

But while one door closed, another opened in the most unexpected way. Just as Floyd exited Y&R, he landed a major role on Days of Our Lives—taking over the role of Chad DiMera, a beloved and complex character previously played by Billy Flynn for over a decade.

“This opportunity came at the perfect time,” Floyd shared. “Chad is such a deep character with a complicated past. I’m honored to take on the DiMera legacy and bring something new to the role while respecting what’s already been built.”

Interestingly, the switch between Floyd and Flynn is being dubbed by fans as a “soap swap,” since Flynn joined Y&R earlier this year in a new role as Aristotle, a mysterious business figure tied to Chance’s final storyline. Floyd himself acknowledged the irony, saying with a smile, “It feels like the universe—or the writers—planned it that way.”

Although Days of Our Lives films far in advance, fans can expect to see Floyd debut as Chad in April 2026. He’s already begun filming, and according to insiders, he’s diving deep into Chad’s emotional history, especially his connection to the DiMera family and his late wife, Abigail.

As he transitions from Genoa City to Salem, Floyd remains grateful for the support of soap fans everywhere. “It’s rare to get the chance to play even one iconic role in daytime TV—let alone two,” he said. “I’m ready for this next chapter.”

And with that, Conner Floyd closes the book on Chance and begins a bold new journey as Chad DiMera—ready to stir up drama, heartbreak, and maybe even redemption in Salem.
