FBI and DEA Execute Major Drug Trafficking Busts Across the U.S.
Federal authorities have recently carried out a series of large-scale operations targeting drug trafficking networks across the United States, resulting in multiple arrests and significant drug seizures. These coordinated actions, led by the FBI and DEA in partnership with local law enforcement, demonstrate a sustained effort to disrupt organized criminal activity and remove dangerous narcotics from communities nationwide.
In May 2025, officials announced one of the largest fentanyl seizures in U.S. history. The operation, conducted across multiple states including New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada, led to the arrest of 16 individuals and the recovery of more than 400 kilograms of fentanyl. Authorities also seized heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, firearms, and over $600,000 in cash. In Albuquerque alone, nearly 396 kilograms of fentanyl pills and 11.5 kilograms of fentanyl powder were confiscated. These actions have been described by Attorney General Pamela Bondi as a historic blow to drug trafficking organizations and a critical step in protecting Americans from the dangers of synthetic opioids.

The FBI has also reported a surge in arrests targeting major drug trafficking operations. Nearly 200 individuals have been charged in a nationwide sweep under the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF). These operations focus not only on street-level distribution but also on dismantling high-level trafficking networks, money laundering schemes, and transnational criminal organizations. Officials emphasize that collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies has been key to identifying suspects and securing evidence for prosecution.
Officials note that the recent operations removed large quantities of controlled substances from circulation, including methamphetamine and cocaine, alongside firearms and cash linked to illegal trafficking. They stress that these coordinated efforts are critical to combating the opioid epidemic and preventing deadly substances from reaching U.S. communities. Previous initiatives, such as Operation DisrupTor, have also demonstrated the effectiveness of multi-agency enforcement in taking down darknet markets and other complex distribution networks.
While federal authorities celebrate the success of these operations, they also caution that the battle against drug trafficking is ongoing. They urge community members to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and support law enforcement efforts. The recent busts underscore both the scale of the threat posed by organized drug networks and the continued commitment of U.S. agencies to protect public health and safety.
By removing hundreds of kilograms of dangerous drugs and arresting key figures in trafficking networks, the FBI and DEA hope to reduce the availability of illicit substances and deter criminal activity. These operations highlight the importance of sustained federal enforcement, interagency cooperation, and community engagement in addressing one of the nation’s most pressing public safety challenges.
