Keanu Reeves Shares the WILD Injury He Endured on Set of Good Fortune (Exclusive)

Keanu Reeves has faced killer robots, raging assassins, and high-speed bus explosions — but his most recent on-set injury might just be one of the wildest stories he’s ever told.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Insider, the 60-year-old action icon opened up about an unexpected accident that occurred while filming his upcoming comedy Good Fortune, written and directed by Aziz Ansari. While the film promises laughs, behind the scenes, things got unexpectedly painful for Reeves.

“I’ve done stunts in John Wick where I’ve been thrown through glass, rolled down stairs, and hit by cars — and I walked away fine,” Reeves said with a grin. “But on Good Fortune? I got taken out by… a piñata.”

Yes, you read that right.

According to Reeves, the scene in question involved a chaotic birthday party sequence where his character tries to impress a room full of children by enthusiastically swinging at a piñata — blindfolded. What was meant to be a funny, lighthearted moment turned into a mishap that left Reeves flat on his back.

“I gave it everything I had,” he said, laughing. “I spun around too hard, lost my footing, and the next thing I knew, I was airborne. I landed on a folding table, snapped it in half, and dislocated my shoulder.”

The actor added, “It was like a cartoon — I think even the kids thought it was part of the act.”

Production was briefly halted while Reeves received medical attention, but in true Keanu fashion, he returned to set the next day — arm in a sling, still cracking jokes.

Director Aziz Ansari, who also stars in the film alongside Seth Rogen and Keke Palmer, praised Reeves’ dedication.

“Keanu is the only guy I know who can injure himself during a comedy scene and still look like a total badass doing it,” Ansari said. “He was back the next morning like nothing happened — he even asked if we could keep the fall in the movie.”

Reeves, who is known for doing many of his own stunts, shrugged off the injury as “part of the fun.”

“If you’re not willing to fall flat — literally — for a laugh, you’re in the wrong business.”

Good Fortune, described as a “karmic buddy comedy with a twist of absurdism,” is set for release later this year and marks one of Reeves’ few ventures into mainstream comedy after decades of action and sci-fi roles. The film is already gaining buzz for its unexpected cast and offbeat energy — now with an added dose of behind-the-scenes legend.

As for Reeves’ shoulder? Fully healed.

“I’ve bounced back from worse,” he said. “But from now on, I’m letting someone else handle the piñata.”
