Serena Williams Shuts Down Rumors of Late-Night Hosting Gig: “It’s Not Happening”

In response to widespread speculation that she and sister Venus Williams would be taking over The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s time slot, tennis icon Serena Williams has issued a firm and unambiguous denial: “It’s not happening.”

Over the past few weeks, online rumors spread like wildfire, claiming CBS had tapped the Williams sisters to host a new late-night talk show titled Postcard: Late Nights with Serena and Venus. The show was allegedly set to replace Colbert’s long-running program, which is scheduled to end in May 2026. The format was said to blend heartfelt interviews, global storytelling, and the sisters’ signature charisma.

However, Serena quickly put an end to the speculation. In a statement posted to her official X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram accounts, she wrote:

“Let me be clear — Venus and I are not hosting any late-night show, now or in the future. We have no involvement with this rumored project. It’s completely false.”

She added, “I love a good talk show as much as anyone, but that’s not where I’m heading next. Please stop spreading misinformation.”

The denial comes after several entertainment blogs, social media fan pages, and even unofficial news sites had reported on the supposed show as though it were confirmed. Within hours, hashtags like #PostcardLateNights and #WilliamsSistersOnLateNight began trending, with fans expressing both excitement and confusion.

CBS has made no official statement regarding a replacement for Colbert’s slot. A spokesperson for the network declined to comment on the rumor, simply stating, “We have not announced a successor for The Late Show at this time.”

The truth is, Serena and Venus Williams are currently focused on very different endeavors. Since her retirement from professional tennis in 2022, Serena has launched multiple business ventures, including Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm supporting diverse founders, and S by Serena, her fashion brand. She’s also a new mother and continues to be a prominent voice in women’s health advocacy.

Venus remains active in the wellness and interior design industries and has continued to compete in select professional tennis events. Both sisters have expressed interest in storytelling and media production but not as late-night hosts.

Despite the firm denial, the rumor reflects a larger public desire for diversity and fresh voices in the late-night space. As The Late Show with Stephen Colbert prepares to end its run in 2026, speculation about who will take over the prestigious 11:35 p.m. slot is expected to continue.

For now, Serena is standing firm. “There are many things I want to do in the future,” she said in her post, “but hosting a late-night talk show isn’t one of them.”
