I stared at the message until my hands began shaking.
“Who hired them?” I asked.
My husband remained silent.
Then he opened one final folder.
Inside was a photograph from eight years ago.
I recognized the three people immediately.
My husband.
My business partner.
And a man I hadn’t seen since college.
My former fiancé.
I felt my stomach drop.
“He’s behind this?”
My husband nodded.
“He contacted your ex first.”
“But why?”
He turned the laptop toward me.
There was one final document.
A contract transferring ownership of our company.
My signature appeared at the bottom.
Except I had never signed it.
My husband pointed to the date.
It was dated six months earlier.
Before I had even met my ex again.
“He planned everything before you knew anything.”
I stared at the forged signature.
“Then why involve me?”
My husband looked at me.
“Because you’re the only person who could make the transfer look legitimate.”
Suddenly, another message appeared.
This time, it came from my former fiancé.

I slowly turned toward my husband.
His expression had completely changed.
“You knew him before me,” I whispered.
