Alongside his wife, the St. Louis personal injury attorney became an overnight conservative media sensation when he stood barefoot on his front lawn, brandishing an AR-15-style rifle at peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters marching past his mansion.
That display led to a criminal conviction for misdemeanor gun charges, a brief suspension of his law license, and a subsequent, highly political pardon from Missouri’s governor. For most of the country, McCloskey faded back into the background of right-wing grievance culture.
