Asset Use: The funds, intended to feed hungry children during the pandemic, were used to buy luxury cars and property in the U.S. and to launder cash abroad, including buying an entire apartment building in Nairobi, Kenya.

Abdi Aziz Farah (36) received the longest sentence so far—28 years in prison—for his role in stealing nearly million. Farah was one of the earliest fraudsters, making absurd claims like serving million meals out of a tiny market. He was also convicted of attempting to bribe a juror during his trial.

Praising Fraudsters: Fate was seen praising two individuals later charged in the scandal, Ikram Muhammad and executive director Amy Bach.
Defense and Hypocrisy: Fate claimed he was unaware the organizations were under investigation and that he “believed [they] were serving honorably.” However, his efforts directly supported the fraudsters’ lawsuit to keep the money flowing.
