Andy Reid gives positive update on injured Chiefs second year player who was a standout during 2024’s training camp

After revealing that wide receiver Rashee Rice and offensive tackle Josh Simmons would be full participants during training camp next month, Chiefs coach Andy Reid also gave an update on tight end Jared Wiley.

“I think we’re going to be okay there,” Reid said when asked if Wiley will be cleared for training camp. “He got some work here the last couple days. So, I think we’ll be fine there.”

That’s a pretty impressive feat for Wiley considering he is only about seven months removed from tearing his ACL in a non-contact drill during practice back in November. Wiley played 94 snaps on offense throughout the first seven weeks of the 2024 season, catching one pass for seven yards.

Kansas City selected Wiley in the fourth round (131st overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft. He played for both Texas and TCU during his five-year collegiate career. As a senior at TCU Wiley caught 47 passes for 520 yards and eight touchdowns. His 178 yards in a game against Baylor is a TCU school record for a TE.

Wiley made a great first impression during Chiefs training camp last year. He got a surprising amount of work with the first team offense, particularly in the redzone. Wiley made several highlight reel catches, including plenty of touchdowns. Travis Kelce gave him a big endorsement, saying that Wiley is further along in his development than he was as a rookie.

However, life comes at you fast in the NFL. Noah Gray elevated his game in a big way last year, and K.C. has recently added veteran Robert Tonyan and undrafted free agent Jake Briningstool into the mix. After being one of the stars of last year’s training camp, Wiley could be fighting just to keep a roster spot in 2025
