Tragedy has struck the Mahomes family amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Texas. A close family member of NFL star Patrick Mahomes has reportedly lost their life while volunteering to help victims of the catastrophic floods that have devastated parts of the state.

The identity of the individual has not yet been released publicly, out of respect for the family’s privacy, but sources confirm that the relative was actively involved in rescue and relief operations near the town of Beaumont, where floodwaters reached dangerous levels over the weekend.

According to local officials, the family member was attempting to assist an elderly couple trapped inside a flooded home when rising water suddenly caused the structure to collapse. Emergency responders were able to rescue the couple, but the Mahomes family member was tragically caught in the debris and later succumbed to their injuries.

Patrick Mahomes, who has been actively supporting relief efforts in his home state — including personally flying in to help residents and donating through the Kansas City Chiefs — issued a short but emotional statement:

“Our family is heartbroken. We lost someone who gave their life helping others. That’s the kind of person they were — selfless, brave, and full of love. Please keep our family and all those affected by these floods in your prayers.”

The news has sent shockwaves through both the sports world and the wider public, who have been following Mahomes’ and the Chiefs’ inspiring involvement in Texas recovery efforts. Tributes poured in from teammates, fans, celebrities, and other athletes. The Chiefs organization released a message of support, calling the loss “a tragedy that reminds us of the real risks people take every day to help others in times of crisis.”

A candlelight vigil is already being planned in Tyler, Texas — Mahomes’ hometown — to honor the life lost in service to others.

In the midst of devastation, the Mahomes family has shown the world what it means to lead with heart. And now, as they grieve, the nation grieves with them
