It was a disastrous Game 2 for the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night in their first round series against the Houston Rockets.

Of course, the Warriors ended up losing the game 109-94, which now has the series tied up at a game apiece as it heads to The Bay for Game 3 on Saturday.

While the Warriors lost the game, the bigger storyline coming from Wednesday’s contest was the health of Golden State’s superstar forward Jimmy Butler.

Butler exited the game late in the first quarter after taking a hard fall on a rebound attempt. The star forward would then be sidelined for the rest of the contest due to a pelvic contusion.

This is a massive blow for Golden State as Butler has played a massive role for them since they acquired him from the Miami Heat at the trade deadline.

With Butler missing the game, head coach Steve Kerr elected to turn to Jonathan Kuminga to replace him as the young forward made his 2025 playoff debut.

Of course, Kuminga was benched by Kerr for the Warriors prior three games but he got an opportunity to earn back his role on Wednesday.

After the game, Stephen Curry sent a message to Kuminga following him replacing Butler due to injury.

“The challenge has always been for him to ‘see the pictures,’ understand the intensity that’s out there, try to be in the right spots defensively, and then when he has opportunities to be aggressive on the offensive end – take them,” Curry said about Kuminga.

Curry was spot on as Kuminga has struggled at time on the defensive and offensive side of the ball, which played a role in why Kerr decided to bench him.

Despite this, Kuminga may now have an increased role if Butler is set to miss time as he played well in Wednesday’s game, finishing with 11 points, three rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes.

Despite this, Kuminga may return to the bench if Butler is able to play in Game 3 on Saturday but that has yet to be seen with the Warriors having yet to release an update for their injured star.
