Los Angeles Chargers Facing Ugly Lawsuit Following Shady Move With Kansas City Chiefs Game

The Los Angeles Chargers could be in some trouble following the emergence of a class-action lawsuit.
According to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, attorney Daniel Wallach has “passed along” a signed complaint against the Chargers regarding the moving of a 2025 home game against the Kansas City Chiefs to Brazil.
The 14-page document has not been filed but contains some damning allegations, including claims that the team promoted season tickets on the basis of a nine-game regular-season schedule with home opponents, including KC.
The game was moved to Brazil, yet the Chargers failed to refund season ticket holders.
When renewals occurred last October, nine regular-season home games, including one against the Chiefs, were marketed. The Chiefs game was again advertised in February, after news came down noting that the Chargers would open the season in Brazil. However, the Chiefs logo had been removed from the group of teams listed by June and was replaced by the New Orleans Saints logo.
Paragraph six of the complaint says that the team “did not offer a refund, credit, or other compensation to Season Ticket Holders” after the Chiefs game was removed, with paragraph eight adding that the Chargers “would not allow Season Ticket Holders to cancel their tickets for the 2025 season with a refund.” Cancellation of tickets would cause forfeiture of any payments already made for the season.

“There was thus no way for Season Ticket Holders, who reasonably believed based on the previous advertising that the Kansas City Chiefs game would be included, to cancel without forfeiting thousands of dollars in payment,” the complaint states.
Los Angeles Chargers Fan Tried Canceling Season Tickets But Was Told He Would Not Be Refunded
The plaintiff, Devin Abney, represented by Rana Ayazi, said he attempted to cancel his tickets and get a full refund after realizing that the Kansas City Chiefs game had been moved to Brazil, but the Los Angeles Chargers did not allow it.
He also accused the team of violating their own internal policies by not refunding season ticket holders the cost of the game against KC once it was confirmed for Brazil.
“At a bare minimum, the Chargers should have given season-ticket holders a partial refund based on the loss of one of ten total 2025 home games, if the tickets were purchased under the assumption that they’d attend all of the games,” Florio writes. “And, yes, if someone bought season tickets under the assumption that they’d get to see the Chiefs — and if the loss of that game was enough to get them to cancel the transaction — they should be allowed to do so.”
The former lawyer adds that the first point definitely falls under class action, but the second could be harder to sell because it can’t be assumed that everyone who purchased season tickets would want to return the entire package because of one game.
