The Los Angeles Lakers went back and forth with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday after defeating the Thunder 126-99 on Sunday. They held a 108-107 lead with 7:40 to go in the fourth quarter and looked to have a real shot at another victory when a shocking development took place.

Luka Doncic, who had been called for a technical foul earlier in the game, was hit with a second technical foul, which triggered his ejection. He had talked some trash to what appeared to be a fan in the crowd, which is not grounds for a technical foul, but he was assessed one as if he directed that trash talk at an opposing player or referee.

Tony Brothers, one of the officials who worked Tuesday’s game (but not the one who gave Doncic that second technical), claimed that the superstar got his second technical because he used “vulgar language” while looking directly at a referee.

Soon after Doncic left, the Lakers came apart at the seams quickly. The game was tied at 112 with 6:47 left before Oklahoma City scored eight unanswered points and went on a 24-4 run that decided the outcome — a 136-120 loss for Los Angeles.

In any case, the Slovenian native will surely be amped up for Wednesday’s game at the Dallas Mavericks, which will mark his first trip to American Airlines Center since he was traded to the Lakers just over two months ago.
