Patrick Mahomes laments the outlook on the Chiefs’ recent offensive struggles and predicts potential for the 2025 season
Kansas City Chiefs News
The Kansas City Chiefs held their second of three mandatory minicamp practices on Wednesday.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes took the podium afterwards, and was asked about the woes the Chiefs’ offense has endured over the past two years. It’s a bit of a sore subject for Mahomes, he has kept great perspective about it.
“You want to be the top offense in the league when you step in the building every single day, but the end of the day, you want to win the Super Bowl,” Mahomes said. “For me, I wasn’t as disappointed in not being the top offense as I was at losing the Super Bowl last year, especially the way we lost it. Our goal is to do whatever we can to win the football game, and hopefully for us, that includes being the top offense to go along with the great defense that we have.”

There’s going to be peaks and valleys during an NFL player’s career, and Mahomes has done as good of a job as anyone on maneuvering through the recent struggles of K.C.’s offense. He went to describe what it will take for the Chiefs’ offense to return to elite form in 2025.
“I think all you can do is just be better than you were the day before,” Mahomes said. “I mean, obviously we have a expectation that we’re going to out there and score every single drive, but that comes with a lot of single reps, a lot of practice reps, a lot of time spent with the guys. So ,it takes every single person in the building to go out there and have the top offense in the league. We have to just go into every practice, every film study, whatever that is, with that mindset that we’re getting the best out of it.”
The potential is certainly there for K.C.’s offense to be great. The wide receiver corps needs to stay relatively healthy after being decimated in 2024, and either Josh Simmons or Jaylon Moore need to solidify the left tackle position. If those things happen, we could see the best Chiefs’ offense since Mahomes’ first season as a starter in 2018.
