Who is the Person of Interest in Assassination of Charlie Kirk?

Utah Valley University – A nationwide manhunt is underway for the suspect in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on what was the first stop of his college campus tour.

Authorities released a photo of a person of interest, described as college-aged, wearing a baseball cap, dark sunglasses, and a shirt emblazoned with the American flag and the slogan “Land of the Free, Home of the Brave.” Law enforcement believe the individual fled on foot after the shooting, discarding the murder weapon—a .30-06 bolt-action hunting rifle—in a wooded area nearby.

According to investigators, the shooting occurred just before 12:20 PM, shortly after Kirk arrived and began engaging with students at a tent setup outside the Losee Student Center. Surveillance footage and eyewitness videos show the suspected shooter positioned on the rooftop with a clear sniper’s line of sight to the event area. He fired a single, precise shot that struck Kirk in the neck, causing him to slump over and collapse within seconds.

Eyewitness Rebecca Hales, who was just 30 feet away, captured the chaos on video as the crowd scattered in panic. “I was in shock,” she said. “We were being trampled trying to run out.” Security personnel rushed Kirk into an SUV and attempted emergency treatment, but doctors later confirmed the wound was fatal and likely unsurvivable even with immediate medical attention.

Authorities say bullets engraved with transgender and anti-fascist slogans were recovered, suggesting a politically motivated attack. “We’re confident we will track this individual down,” said local police, who are working in conjunction with the FBI.

Footage shows the suspect fleeing across the roof before jumping down and disappearing into a nearby neighborhood. A thorough search continues in the surrounding area.

Criticism has mounted over the lack of security at the event. Only six local police officers and Kirk’s private bodyguards were reportedly present. Attendee Jeremy King, who sat in the front row, expressed concern: “I was actually telling him, where’s all the security? They didn’t even scan my ticket.”

However, according to close friend Steve Bannon, Kirk had intentionally minimized his security presence. “He didn’t want to be cut off from the young people,” Bannon explained. “He knew the risks, but he believed being close to the crowd mattered more.”

The tragic assassination has left a deep void among young conservatives, many of whom viewed Kirk as a relatable and fearless voice. With tributes pouring in from across the political spectrum, the FBI’s manhunt continues—with a nation watching, waiting, and mourning.
