Selena Gomez is opening up about one of the most personal topics of her life — motherhood.
The 33-year-old singer and actress recently shared a heartfelt moment while celebrating the season two finale of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place on October 9. In a nostalgic nod to her beloved character Alex Russo, Selena posted a clip revealing that Alex is actually the mother of Billy Russo — a touching twist that left fans emotional.
To commemorate the moment, the Rare Beauty founder wrote on Instagram:
“Alex Russo is a mommy. Hopefully, one day that’ll be me.”
The emotional finale also featured Selena’s on-screen daughter, Janice Leanne Brown, with whom she shared a tearful scene about love and sacrifice.
“Obviously, she had to make a hard choice as a mom to protect her child,” Selena explained in a behind-the-scenes interview for Disney Channel’s YouTube page. “It was very emotional — especially for me and her. After the table read, we were just puddles.”
Later in the episode, Alex sacrifices herself to save Billy — a dramatic moment that fans speculate could mark Selena’s exit from the sequel series.
From Magic to Motherhood
Selena’s tender post about motherhood came just weeks after she married music producer Benny Blanco in a quiet California ceremony.
The couple has spoken candidly about their hopes of starting a family, though Selena has shared that her path to motherhood will look a little different.
In a Vanity Fair interview from September 2024, the star revealed:
“I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
Selena added that she’s now at peace with alternative options like surrogacy and adoption:
“It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone, but I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption — both huge possibilities for me.”
A Hopeful Future
Despite the challenges, Selena says her dream of motherhood remains unwavering.
“It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people,” she said. “I’m excited for what that journey will look like — it’ll look a little different, but at the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
With her heart open and her faith strong, Selena Gomez continues to show that even when the path to happiness takes unexpected turns, love — like magic — always finds a way.
