The late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been taken off the air indefinitely following a wave of backlash over comments host Jimmy Kimmel made about the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Donald Trump SPEAKS OUT On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Being Taken Off Air ‘Indefinitely’

An ABC spokesperson confirmed to NBC News that the program “will be preempted indefinitely” just days after Kimmel sparked outrage during his Monday night monologue. In the segment, Kimmel suggested that Tyler Robinson, the suspect accused of killing Kirk, could be a pro-Trump Republican. He said:

“The MAGA gang is desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

The remarks quickly ignited controversy. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr even warned that the agency might “take action” against ABC and Disney. Meanwhile, NextStar Media Group — which owns more than 200 local stations across the U.S. — announced that its ABC affiliates would begin preempting the show immediately.

Former President Donald Trump responded to the development with a statement posted on the official White House X account, calling it “great news for America.” He wrote:

“The ratings-challenged Jimmy Kimmel show is canceled. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.”

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, died on September 10 after being shot while speaking at Utah Valley University. His death, combined with Kimmel’s pointed remarks, has fueled a media firestorm and left Jimmy Kimmel Live! facing the biggest crisis in its history.
