‘I Don’t Want Her’: Trump Claims Somalia Refused to Take Back Ilhan Omar; Congresswoman Dubs Him ‘Lying Buffoon’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The intense political rivalry between former President Donald Trump and Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) reached a new peak this week after Trump claimed in the Oval Office that he had suggested to the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, that he should “take her back,” only to be rebuffed.

Trump’s comments, made during a conversation with political allies and staff, drew immediate outrage and a fiery response from Omar on social media. The exchange is the latest in a series of highly charged confrontations following Omar’s controversial remarks about the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

THE OVAL OFFICE CLAIM: “I DON’T WANT HER”

The claim was made during an informal meeting where Trump was discussing political rivals, including Omar and other members of the progressive “Squad.”

Trump claimed to have met with the President of Somalia and suggested repatriation for the U.S. Congresswoman:

“I met the head of Somalia, did you know that? And I suggested that maybe he’d like to take her back and he said, ‘I don’t want her.’”

The comment drew laughter from those present, including Vice President J.D. Vance, FBI Director Kash Patel, and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Trump has previously stated that he believes Omar, who was born in Somalia and came to the U.S. as a refugee, “came here fraudulently” and should be “sent back to Somalia.”

Omar’s Retort: “Lying Buffoon”

Representative Omar responded sharply on X (formerly Twitter), directly calling Trump a liar and a fool:

“From denying Somalia had a president to making up a story, President Trump is a lying buffoon. No one should take this embarrassing fool seriously.”

Omar’s tweet implicitly rejected the premise of Trump’s story while simultaneously dismissing the former President as a credible source.

THE BACKDROP: CRITICISM OVER CHARLIE KIRK

The fiery exchange is rooted in the widespread criticism Omar has faced for her inflammatory comments following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA. Kirk was fatally shot at an outdoor event in Utah.

Omar’s Controversial Statements

Omar drew particular outrage by criticizing public tributes to Kirk, whom she labeled a “stochastic terrorist” on social media.

CNN Interview: In an interview with CNN, Omar stated: “I’m not going to sit here and be judged for not wanting to honor any legacy this man has left behind. We should hopefully move on and forget the hate that he spewed every day.”
Targeting Democrats: Omar also accused Democrats and celebrities of “normalizing his legacy.”

The remarks led Republican Representative Nancy Mace to introduce a resolution to censure Omar for celebrating murder, a motion that narrowly failed in the House.

TRUMP ON CENSORSHIP AND CREDIBILITY

During the Oval Office discussion, Trump addressed the issue of censorship and the media’s influence, linking it to the criticism leveled against Omar.

Media Bias: Trump complained that the major media networks were “97% against” him during the election, yet he still won, proving, in his view, that they “have no credibility.”

FCC Licensing: He mused that perhaps the media networks’ licenses should be revoked by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) if they fail to uphold journalistic standards, referencing a statement by FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr.

Trump also dismissed any concern over his strained relationship with London Mayor Sadiq Khan, stating he asked that Khan “not be there” during a state visit because he considers him “among the worst mayors in the world.”

The political back-and-forth confirms that the feud between Trump and Omar remains one of the most intense and public political rivalries, defined by deep ideological differences and constant personal attacks.
