Hollywood has lost one of its most beloved stars. According to People Magazine, Diane Keaton has passed away at the age of 79. A family spokesperson confirmed that the Oscar-winning actress died in California, though no additional details about her passing have been made public. Access Hollywood has reached out for further comment.
Keaton first made her mark on Hollywood in the 1970s with her unforgettable performances in The Godfather films and her creative collaborations with Woody Allen. In 1977, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Allen’s Annie Hall, a performance that cemented her place among the greatest talents in film history.

Over the decades, Keaton continued to shape Hollywood with her wit, charm, and authenticity, starring in beloved classics like The First Wives Club, Father of the Bride, and countless others that defined generations of moviegoers.
Access Hollywood last interviewed Diane in 2022 while she was promoting her film Mack & Rita. During the candid conversation, she reflected on her career highlights, her sense of humor intact as ever.
When host Mario Lopez mentioned how her signature style had inspired the “coastal grandmother” fashion trend, Keaton laughed it off:
“I make nothing of it,” she said with a smile. “I’m not inspiring anybody. Maybe they’ll watch the movie, and that would be great—that’s enough.”
She also spoke fondly about her surprising friendship with Justin Bieber, recalling her appearance in his music video for Ghost:
“It was one of those unusual things,” she said. “His manager reached out, and somehow I ended up being part of that song at the beach. He was such a gentleman—so talented, and I love that song.”
When asked if she had watched The Offer, the TV miniseries about the making of The Godfather, Keaton admitted she hadn’t:
“No, I didn’t see it,” she said. “I’m sure it’s excellent, but me and The Godfather—I was just this really strange character. I don’t really think about [Kay Corleone] anymore.”
She went on to reflect with humility on her experience filming the legendary movie:
“It was astonishing to be there, to witness how extraordinary everyone was—Francis [Ford Coppola], Al [Pacino], Marlon [Brando]. I was blown away all the time. I didn’t even know much about The Godfather when I auditioned,” she laughed. “I just read what I was supposed to read, and somehow it worked out. Imagine what I learned from being around those people.”
From her early days as the quirky muse of 1970s cinema to her later years as a fashion icon and beloved screen presence, Diane Keaton’s legacy is one of brilliance, individuality, and timeless charm.
She will forever be remembered as one of Hollywood’s most unique voices—fearless, funny, and unforgettable.
