Former UFC Fighter Suman Mokhtarian Shot Dead at 33 During Evening Walk
Date: October 10, 2025
Teammates and the MMA community are mourning the tragic loss of Suman Mokhtarian, a former UFC featherweight fighter, who was reportedly shot and killed during an evening walk in Sydney on Wednesday.
According to multiple reports, the 33-year-old Australian, previously linked to an attempted assassination more than 18 months ago, was gunned down in Riverstone, in Sydney’s west.
Police Statement and Investigation
The New South Wales Police released a statement in response to the incident:
“A man has died in a public place shooting in Sydney’s west today. About 6pm today, emergency services were called to Annaluke Street, Riverstone, following reports of a shooting.
Officers attached to Riverstone Police Area Command attended and found a man suffering gunshot wounds. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene. The man is yet to be formally identified.
A short time later, about 6.15pm, emergency services were called to Riverstone Road near Clark Street, following reports of a car fire. The vehicle was destroyed. Police have established two crime scenes and are investigating whether the incidents are linked.”
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are urging witnesses or individuals with information to come forward.
Mokhtarian’s UFC Career
Suman Mokhtarian had a brief but notable stint in the UFC, competing in the featherweight division. He earned his UFC contract after appearing on The Ultimate Fighter in 2018. He made his debut against Sodiq Yusuff and later fought Seung Woo Choi, losing both bouts.
After stepping away from professional competition, Mokhtarian remained active in the MMA scene through coaching and training. His professional MMA record stands at 8–2.
Tributes from Friends and Teammates
Mokhtarian’s former teammates shared heartfelt tributes across social media. Jesse Swain wrote on Instagram:
“Haven’t been able to sleep tonight after hearing the news … Suman believed in me more than I believed in myself … I owe all I’ve done in MMA to him. He pushed me to heights I never thought I’d reach. I’ll make sure to fulfill that potential for him. RIP Suman.”
Another teammate, Ali Hassan, expressed:
“Allah please have mercy. This has hurt my family so much for the things he’s done for us. Suman got me out of the gutter, cared for me when I needed it most … Ya Allah have mercy on him.”
Ongoing Investigation
As the investigation into Mokhtarian’s death unfolds, authorities are treating the case as a high-priority shooting. The potential connection to the car fire discovered nearby adds complexity to the incident.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact New South Wales Crime Stoppers.
