Sydney Sweeney is finally speaking out about the controversy surrounding her American Eagle jeans ad — and she’s keeping things cool and collected.

In her new GQ November cover story, the Euphoria star addressed the heated reaction to the campaign, which went viral earlier this year. “The reaction definitely was a surprise,” she admitted. “But honestly, I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life.”

The ad — which featured the tagline “Great Jeans” — sparked intense debate online. Many fans saw it as a playful pun celebrating Sydney’s denim look, but others accused it of implying “great genes,” referencing her appearance and sparking conversations about race and privilege. The backlash grew so large that even the White House reportedly commented on the cultural stir.

For Sydney, though, the storm barely registered. “It was surreal,” she said, explaining that she was filming Euphoria for up to 16 hours a day and rarely on her phone. “I wasn’t thinking of it like that. I kind of just put my phone away. I work, and then I go home and sleep. I didn’t really see a lot of it.”

Sydney Sweeney Breaks Her Silence on American Eagle Campaign Controversy

Despite the noise, Sydney says she never felt the need to release a statement or defend herself. “I think that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear,” she told GQ calmly.

Back in August, American Eagle clarified their stance on Instagram, writing: “The campaign is and always was about the jeans. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence — their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”

As for Sydney, she’s staying focused on her craft — unbothered, grounded, and, of course, rocking her favorite pair of jeans. 💫
