PART 2 — THE MAN INSIDE THE HOLMES FAMILY WHO SOLD HIS OWN BLOODLINE
PART 2 — THE MAN INSIDE THE HOLMES FAMILY WHO SOLD HIS OWN BLOODLINE

The first thing Gabriel Holmes learned after discovering the photograph was that betrayal did not always arrive with a weapon.
Sometimes it arrived with a handshake.
Sometimes it sat at your dinner table.
Sometimes it called you “family” while quietly preparing your destruction.
And sometimes…
it was the person who taught you how to survive.
For three months, Gabriel had searched every corner of Boston looking for Douglas.
He had fought enemies.
Destroyed alliances.
Threatened people who had spent their lives hiding behind money and influence.
But the person who had been closest to the truth had never been a stranger.
It had been someone inside his own home.
Someone who had stood beside him after Antonio’s funeral.
Someone who had placed a hand on his shoulder and said:
“We will find whoever did this.”
Now Gabriel was standing in the underground office beneath the Holmes estate, staring at the same man’s name written across a classified file.
Victor Holmes.
His uncle.
The man who raised him.
The man who taught him the family business.
The man who had been there when Gabriel lost his parents.
The man who had become the closest thing he had to a father.
Vincent watched Gabriel carefully.
“Boss.”
Gabriel didn’t answer.
“Are you sure?”
That question made Gabriel look up.
Not because he was angry.
Because Vincent was the only person in the room who understood what this meant.
“You think I want this to be true?”
Vincent looked down.
“No.”
Gabriel closed the folder.
“Then don’t ask me that again.”
The room became silent.
Then a small sound interrupted them.
A baby crying.
Everyone turned.
Douglas.
The child who had survived an ambush.
The child who had spent three months hidden from the world.
The child whose existence had become the reason an entire family was falling apart.
Chalice immediately picked him up.
Her exhaustion disappeared the second she held him.
She whispered softly.
“It’s okay.”
Gabriel watched her.
There was something he didn’t understand.
For three months, she had been hunted.
She had slept in abandoned buildings.
She had hidden from people who wanted the baby.
Yet she still looked at Douglas like protecting him was the easiest decision she had ever made.
“How did you know Isabella?”
Gabriel asked.
Chalice looked at him.
“I told you.”
“You worked at the hospital.”
“Yes.”
“That’s not what I mean.”
She became quiet.
Gabriel stepped closer.
“My sister-in-law trusted you with her son.”
A pause.
“Why?”
Chalice looked at Douglas.
Then she answered.
“Because Isabella knew me before that night.”
Gabriel frowned.
“What?”
“She had been coming to the hospital for months.”
“Why?”
Chalice hesitated.
“She was afraid.”
The word changed the room.
“Afraid of what?”
Chalice looked directly at Gabriel.
“Your family.”
Gabriel felt his jaw tighten.
“Explain.”
“She started asking questions.”
“About what?”
“Money transfers.”
“Business?”
“No.”
Chalice shook her head.
“People disappearing.”
The silence became heavier.
“She told me Antonio had discovered something.”
Gabriel stared.
“My brother?”
“Yes.”
“What?”
Chalice lowered her voice.
“He discovered that someone inside the Holmes organization was moving money through accounts connected to police officials.”
Gabriel froze.
That was impossible.
Or at least he wanted it to be.
Antonio had always been careful.
Antonio trusted very few people.
And Victor was one of them.
“Why didn’t she tell me?”
Chalice looked away.
“She tried.”
Gabriel stopped.
“What?”
“She said she called you.”
His mind immediately returned to the weeks before Antonio died.
The missed calls.
The unanswered messages.
The business meetings.
The arguments.
He remembered Antonio saying:
“Gabriel, we need to talk.”
But Gabriel had been angry.
He had accused Antonio of being paranoid.
He had told him:
“You’re seeing enemies everywhere.”
The memory hit him harder than expected.
Because now he understood.
Antonio had not been paranoid.
He had been warning him.
“Where is the evidence?”
Chalice shook her head.
“I don’t know.”
“You must know something.”
“She said if anything happened to her, someone would come looking.”
“Who?”
Chalice looked at Douglas.
“She said only one person could be trusted.”
Gabriel stepped closer.
“Who?”
Chalice looked at him.
“You.”
For the first time that night, Gabriel had no response.
Because the woman he had suspected had spent three months protecting his family.
And his own family had tried to destroy it.
The next morning, Gabriel called a meeting.
Everyone came.
Executives.
Security leaders.
Family members.
People who had worked for the Holmes organization for decades.
Including Victor.
The moment Victor entered the room, Gabriel noticed something.
A small hesitation.
Almost invisible.
But Gabriel had spent his entire life reading people.
And he saw it.
Victor knew something was wrong.
Victor smiled.
“Gabriel.”
He walked closer.
“I heard there was a development.”
Gabriel remained seated.
“Yes.”
“Douglas?”
A strange emotion crossed Victor’s face.
Relief.
Too much relief.
Gabriel noticed.
“You seem confident.”
Victor smiled.
“Of course. The family has been searching.”
Gabriel opened a folder.
Inside was the hospital security photograph.
Victor’s expression changed for half a second.
Then disappeared.
But Gabriel saw it.
“You recognize this?”
Victor looked at the image.
“No.”
A lie.
Gabriel knew immediately.
Because Victor had taught him one thing better than anyone.
How to detect lies.
“You’re sure?”
Victor nodded.
“Absolutely.”
Gabriel leaned back.
“Interesting.”
He placed another photograph on the table.
This one showed Victor entering the hospital.
The same night Antonio died.
The room went silent.
Victor looked at it.
Then looked at Gabriel.
“You’re accusing me?”
“No.”
Gabriel’s voice was calm.
“I’m asking why you were there.”
Victor laughed softly.
“You’re emotional.”
That sentence made Gabriel’s eyes narrow.
“Emotional?”
“Yes.”
Victor leaned forward.
“You lost your brother. You found the child. Now you want someone to blame.”
Gabriel said nothing.
Because he knew this tactic.
Make the victim look unstable.
Make the truth look like anger.
Then the door opened.
Vincent entered.
His face was serious.
“Boss.”
Gabriel looked at him.
“What?”
“We found something.”
He placed a tablet on the table.
A bank transfer record.
The room changed.
The account belonged to a company connected to Victor.
The payment date?
Three days before the attack.
The recipient?
A private security contractor.
The same contractor that provided vehicles used during the ambush.
Nobody moved.
Victor slowly looked around.
“This proves nothing.”
Gabriel stared at him.
“You paid the people who attacked my brother.”
Victor smiled.
A cold smile.
“You still don’t understand.”
The room became silent.
Gabriel stood.
“Understand what?”
Victor looked at him.
“That Antonio was weak.”
The words hit everyone.
“He cared too much.”
Victor continued.
“He wanted to leave the family behind. He wanted to destroy everything we built.”
Gabriel’s hands closed.
“So you killed him?”
Victor didn’t answer.
And that was answer enough.
Suddenly, Chalice stepped forward.
Everyone turned.
She was holding Douglas.
“You forgot something.”
Victor looked at her.
“What?”
She reached into her jacket.
And pulled out a small device.
A recording.
Victor’s expression changed.
Because he recognized it.
“This was in Isabella’s hospital room.”
Gabriel stared.
“You had this?”
Chalice nodded.
“She gave it to me.”
She pressed play.
Static filled the room.
Then Isabella’s voice.
Weak.
But clear.
“If Gabriel hears this…”
Everyone froze.
“My brother-in-law is the only person I trust.”
Gabriel closed his eyes.
Then Isabella continued:
“Victor knows about the baby.”
Silence.
“He knows Douglas survived.”
The room became still.
“He will try to take him.”
Victor’s face changed completely.
The mask disappeared.
For the first time, everyone saw him.
Not as the family leader.
Not as the respected uncle.
But as the man behind everything.
Then something unexpected happened.
The lights went out.
The entire mansion fell into darkness.
A gunshot echoed.
Everyone dropped.
When emergency lights returned…
Victor was gone.
And so was Douglas.
Gabriel’s heart stopped.
“Chalice?”
She was on the floor.
Alive.
But injured.
Her eyes opened.
“Gabriel…”
He rushed toward her.
“Where is he?”
She grabbed his arm.
“Not Victor.”
Gabriel froze.
“What?”
“He wasn’t alone.”
Outside the mansion, tires screamed.
A vehicle disappeared into the rain.
Gabriel stood at the window.
His entire family had betrayed him.
But now he understood something worse.
Victor had never been the real enemy.
He was only protecting someone higher.
Someone with more power.
Someone who wanted Douglas alive…
but wanted Gabriel dead.
Then Vincent received a message.
One sentence.
He read it silently.
And his face changed.
Gabriel noticed.
“What?”
Vincent slowly handed him the phone.
The message said:
“Tell Gabriel the truth. Antonio’s death was never about money.”
A second message appeared.
“It was about the child’s bloodline.”
Gabriel stared at the screen.
Because for the first time…
he realized Douglas was not just an heir.
The baby was carrying a secret.
A secret someone had killed for.
And now they had taken him.
Gabriel grabbed his coat.
The storm outside grew stronger.
Three months ago, he searched for a missing baby.
Tonight, he was hunting the people who started a war over him.
And this time…
he was not looking for revenge.
He was looking for his family.
Because somewhere in Boston…
Douglas was waiting.
And Gabriel Holmes was coming.
