NBA free agent rumors: Suns have offered Jonathan Kuminga four-years, $145 million

While the Golden State Warriors have been holding firm on a one-year offer to restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, two of the team’s division rivals have made much more sizable offers. According to a report by Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of ESPN, the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns have both made sizable multi-year offers to the young wing.

Kuminga and Turner have used July to explore their sign-and-trade options,” Charania and Slater wrote. “The most significant negotiations have been with the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns, getting proposals up to four years approaching $90 million total, including a player option for the final season, sources said. Phoenix has made the most lucrative push via sign-and-trade.”

Later in the article, Slater and Charania add that, “Phoenix’s proposal is also nearly $70 million more guaranteed than the Warriors’ offer,” confirming the Suns offer is presumably in the four-year, $90 million range since the article states the Warriors offer has $21.7 million in guarantees.

Unfortunately for Kuminga, he is a restricted free agent and the Suns lack the cap space to make an outright offer sheet to him. Instead, he’s forced to look at this much more sizable offer and hope the Suns can entice the Warriors to come to a sign-and-trade agreement. It could work out great for all parties if Phoenix had something Golden State wanted, but with virtually no young promising players on good value contracts nor first-round picks, the Suns have little to offer.
