Europe Is Sleepwalking Toward a Wider War: Putin’s…
As the war in Ukraine enters another uncertain phase, concerns are growing that Europe may be moving toward a larger confrontation without fully confronting the consequences. While military support for Kyiv has strengthened, diplomatic channels have weakened, and the risk of escalation between Russia and the West has become a central question in international security.
Professor Jiang Xueqin argues that Europe may be underestimating the danger of a prolonged confrontation. The most important element, Jiang suggests, is the possibility that Russia has shown greater restraint than many Western observers recognize.
For much of the conflict, Russia has avoided direct military confrontation with NATO forces despite increasing Western involvement in Ukraine.
