Man Who Threw Green Sex Toy at New York Liberty vs. Dallas Wings Game Has Been Caught and Rightfully Punished
A man who threw a green sex toy onto the court during the WNBA game between the New York Liberty and Dallas Wings at Barclays Center has been identified and apprehended, according to the NYPD.
The object reportedly hit a 12-year-old girl sitting with her mother in Section 116. Thankfully, she wasn’t seriously injured, but the incident caused panic and outrage among nearby fans. Surveillance footage revealed the suspect — wearing a Beavis and Butt-Head T-shirt, black pants, a red hat, and sporting visible tattoos — and authorities swiftly launched a manhunt. He is now facing charges including assault and public disturbance.
This disturbing moment is one of several recent cases in which sex toys have been thrown onto the court during WNBA games, often linked to a bizarre promotional stunt by a cryptocurrency group tied to the meme coin “Green Dildo Coin.” This group has reportedly been encouraging fans to throw green-colored sex toys onto courts to go viral, but now face serious legal consequences.
According to sources, the man is expected to face misdemeanor or potentially felony charges depending on further investigation — especially as his actions resulted in a minor being involved. The NYPD has not ruled out additional charges related to public lewdness and endangering the welfare of a child.
In response, the WNBA and its teams have taken a zero-tolerance stance. The league is working closely with law enforcement to permanently ban the individuals responsible and press criminal charges when applicable.
“This behavior is not only dangerous, it’s disrespectful — especially at a women’s sporting event where safety and professionalism should be paramount,” said a league spokesperson.
Coaches and players have also spoken out. Cheryl Reeve, head coach of the Minnesota Lynx, called the incidents “disgusting and degrading.” LA Sparks coach Lynne Roberts emphasized that the events reflect deeper issues with how female athletes are perceived in public spaces.
“This is not harmless fun. It’s misogyny disguised as internet trolling,” Roberts said.
The controversy has raised questions about venue security, the influence of meme culture, and the treatment of women’s sports in general. While the suspect involved in the Liberty vs. Wings game has now been caught, the league warns that future incidents will result in criminal prosecution, lifetime bans from venues, and potential civil penalties.
