Iran NEW Supreme Leader HEALTH CRASHES
THE MARTYR’S MURAL: Evidence Mounts of Supreme Leader’s Death as Tehran Scrambles for Peace
MASHHAD / WASHINGTON — For two months, the Islamic Republic of Iran has maintained a carefully crafted narrative: their new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was alive, recovering from severe injuries sustained in the opening Israeli-American strike of the war. They spoke of multiple surgeries, potential skin grafts, and a leader who was “mentally stable” and directing the nation from behind a veil of bandages.
Yesterday, that narrative may have suffered a fatal blow—not from an intelligence leak or an opposition broadcast, but from the regime’s own supporters in the city of Mashhad.
The “Martyr’s Mural” Revelation
In Mashhad, the birthplace of the previous Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, local regime officials unveiled a massive “Martyrs of the War” mural. The artwork was intended to honor those killed in the current conflict. Positioned alongside the founder of the Republic, Ayatollah Khomeini, and the late General Qasem Soleimani, was the unmistakable face of Mojtaba Khamenei.
In the strict iconography of the Islamic Republic, being featured on such a mural is a definitive signal of martyrdom (death).
“This isn’t an intelligence estimate; this is the regime’s own internal logic on public display,” noted one Middle East analyst. “You do not put a living leader on a martyr’s mural unless you are preparing the public for an announcement of his death.”
The timing of this revelation coincides with reports that Mojtaba was present at the central Tehran compound during the February 28th strike. While previous reports claimed he had “stepped out for fresh air” seconds before Israeli jets leveled the building, the severity of his injuries—including a leg requiring a prosthetic and debilitating facial burns—suggested he may never have been expected to survive.
Trump Pulls Back: “No One Knows Who’s in Charge”
The confusion in Tehran has had an immediate impact on the global stage. President Trump confirmed yesterday that he is canceling the high-level peace mission of special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff to Pakistan.
Speaking from the White House, Trump was blunt about the leadership vacuum in Iran: “I’ll deal with whoever is running the show, but right now, they don’t even know. They’re fighting with each other… tremendous infighting. They’re probably fighting for leadership in many cases. There’s no reason to have people traveling for 17 hours to meet with people who might not even have the power to sign a deal.”
The President’s “maximum pressure” stance seems to have worked as intended. Within 10 minutes of the cancellation, Iran reportedly sent a “much better” peace proposal to the United States, which included explicit language regarding the permanent abandonment of nuclear weapons.

Operation Economic Fury: The “Teapot” Sanctions
While the military ceasefire holds, Operation Economic Fury is accelerating. The U.S. Treasury recently targeted China’s “Teapot” refineries—small, independent facilities specifically designed to bypass international banking systems and process sanctioned oil from Iran and Russia.
Because these refineries do not use Western dollars or have Western investors, they were previously thought to be “sanction-proof.” However, the U.S. is now targeting the shipping and insurance companies that these refineries rely on. By stripping away the ability to insure these tankers, the U.S. is effectively driving Iranian profit margins into the ground.
Simultaneously, the Treasury successfully froze Iranian state-owned cryptocurrency assets. By targeting the exchanges and companies holding these accounts, the U.S. has severed one of the regime’s last remaining “workaround” pipelines for moving liquid capital.
The 18-Day Clock: The Oil Well Dilemma
Iran’s greatest threat, however, is not a bomb—it is nature.
Because of the U.S. blockade in the Gulf of Oman, Iran cannot export its oil. With onshore storage tanks full, the regime has begun using nine retired supertankers as floating storage depots in the Persian Gulf.
Experts estimate this “floating depot” strategy buys Iran only 18 extra days. Once these tankers are full, Iran must shut down its oil wells. As President Trump explained this morning: “When you turn it off because you have no place to store this oil… that line explodes from within, both mechanically and in the earth. You can never rebuild it the way it was. If you rebuild it, it would only be about 50% of what it is right now.”
The Desperation of the Foreign Minister
The Iranian Foreign Minister is currently in a state of diplomatic “ping-pong,” flying between Pakistan and Oman in a desperate attempt to keep the U.S. at the table. After being snubbed by the cancellation of the Kushner-Witkoff trip, he has reportedly returned to Islamabad with a “revised” proposal that addresses the U.S. blockade and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The central question remains: Who is authorizing these deals?
If Mojtaba Khamenei is indeed dead, as the Mashhad mural suggests, the power has likely shifted entirely to the IRGC and its commander, Ahmad Vahidi. For the United States, negotiating with a “leaderless” regime is a dangerous gambit—one that President Trump appears content to avoid until the IRGC shows its true hand.
