Charlie Kirk Answers College Student on Why Christianity Is True in Viral Campus Moment
Austin, Texas – September 30, 2025 — Conservative commentator and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk sparked widespread online discussion this week after a fiery exchange with a college student at the University of Texas went viral, centering on a question that has echoed through centuries: “Why do you believe Christianity is true?”
The exchange took place during a Q&A session following Kirk’s campus tour talk titled “Faith and Freedom: Defending American Values in a Post-Christian Culture.” A student, identified only as David, stood at the microphone and asked directly, “Why should I believe Christianity over every other religion? What makes it true and not just tradition?”
Kirk’s response, captured on dozens of smartphones and uploaded across social media platforms, was clear, passionate, and unapologetically evangelical.
“Truth Is Not Relative”
“Christianity is not just a cultural tradition — it’s a truth claim,” Kirk began. “At the center of Christianity is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. If that didn’t happen, then the entire religion collapses. But if it did happen, then everything changes.”
He went on to argue that Christianity is the only worldview that, in his words, “fully accounts for the brokenness of the world, the dignity of the individual, and the possibility of redemption.”
Historical Evidence and Personal Transformation
Kirk pointed to what he called the “mounting historical and philosophical evidence” for the resurrection of Jesus, citing scholars like N.T. Wright and apologists like William Lane Craig. He also referenced extra-biblical sources from Roman historians like Tacitus and Jewish writers like Josephus.
“But even beyond that,” he added, “look at the transformational power of Christianity. No other worldview has built hospitals, ended slavery, defended the value of life, and inspired the greatest charitable movements in human history like Christianity has.”
Pushback and Applause
While the student appeared skeptical, nodding slowly and asking follow-up questions about science and other religions, the room eventually broke into applause after Kirk’s final line:
“Christianity is not true because it makes us feel good. It’s true because Jesus rose from the dead — and that truth has stood up to 2,000 years of scrutiny.”
The clip has racked up millions of views on X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and YouTube, sparking debate from both sides of the religious and political aisle. Some praised Kirk’s boldness and clarity, while others criticized him for “oversimplifying complex theological and historical issues.”
Reactions Pour In
Christian influencers and apologists such as Allie Beth Stuckey and Sean McDowell praised the moment online. McDowell tweeted, “Whether you agree or not, this is exactly the kind of conversation we need on college campuses.”
Meanwhile, atheist and secular groups have also responded, calling for a follow-up debate with a scholar of comparative religion.
Regardless of where one stands, the exchange has reignited interest in the age-old question of faith, reason, and what it means to believe in something — not just because it’s comforting, but because it’s true.
