A chance encounter outside a local deli has led to the heartwarming rescue of three stray dogs, highlighting the power of patience and compassion.
It all began when a passerby noticed a stray dog searching for food near a deli. The dog’s heartbreaking eyes and severe skin disease, which had left him almost hairless, moved the rescuer to buy him some food. At first, the dog was too afraid to approach, only daring to eat after the food was placed on the ground. Even then, he remained extremely wary, startled by the smallest movements.

Over the next few days, the rescuer visited regularly, hoping to gain the dog’s trust and eventually get him medical treatment. With gentle encouragement and repeated attempts, the dog finally built up the courage to take food from the rescuer’s hand—careful and gentle, as if afraid of causing harm. The bond between the two grew slowly, with the rescuer providing food, water, and comfort.
Soon, the rescuer discovered that the stray was not alone. Two more dogs, likely his companions, appeared and shared the meals. Though all three were cautious and easily frightened, the rescuer decided to try to help them all. After discussing with family, the decision was made to adopt all three dogs.
The process of capturing the dogs took patience and careful planning. Over several weeks, the rescuer used food, a fence, and eventually a large cage to safely bring Mao Mao—the bravest of the group—and his friends home. Once inside, the dogs reacted differently: Mao Mao was nervous and alert, while the other two quickly fell asleep, finally safe after their time on the streets.
Adjusting to their new home was a gradual process. Mao Mao, in particular, struggled with anxiety and refused to go outside at first, possibly fearing abandonment. With time, encouragement, and gentle care, he began to adapt, even licking the rescuer’s hand and wagging his tail. Medical treatment for his skin disease was started, with the veterinarian estimating a three-month recovery period including regular medicated baths.
Two months later, Mao Mao and his friends are showing remarkable progress. Their story is a testament to the impact of kindness and the belief that every stray animal deserves a second chance. Thanks to one person’s patience and love, three dogs now have a home, security, and hope for a brighter future.
