Michael Jackson’s Private 3AM Phone Calls with Princess Diana
In the world of fame and celebrity, where the glitz and glamour often overshadow the human experience, two iconic figures emerged as beacons of compassion and understanding: Michael Jackson, the “King of Pop,” and Diana, the “People’s Princess.” Their friendship, forged in the crucible of public scrutiny and personal struggles, transcended the boundaries of their royal and musical realms. This is the story of their unique bond, characterized by late-night phone calls, shared vulnerabilities, and a mutual desire to make the world a better place.
The year was 1988, a time when Michael Jackson was at the zenith of his career, and Princess Diana was navigating the complexities of royal life. Their paths crossed on July 16, during Jackson’s electrifying performance at Wembley Stadium as part of his “Bad” tour. Diana, accompanied by her then-husband Prince Charles, was already a devoted fan of Jackson’s music, often found listening to his albums “Thriller” and “Bad” in the privacy of her home.
As the concert approached, Jackson felt a mix of excitement and anxiety. He was aware of the significance of performing in front of royalty, and in a moment of consideration, he decided to remove the song “Dirty Diana” from his setlist. The track, which spoke of a rock groupie, felt inappropriate given the presence of the Princess. However, upon learning of his decision, Diana urged him to keep the song, revealing that it was one of her favorites. This moment marked the beginning of a friendship that would flourish despite the challenges they both faced.
Their friendship blossomed over time, nurtured by shared experiences and a deep understanding of the pressures that came with their public personas. Jackson, known for his humanitarian efforts, had donated £150,000 to the Prince’s Trust charity, reflecting his commitment to helping young people. Diana, too, was passionate about philanthropy, dedicating her life to various charitable causes, including those related to AIDS awareness and children’s welfare.

As their friendship deepened, Jackson often spoke of the late-night phone calls they shared. “Diana woke me up usually late at night, mostly after three in the morning,” he recalled. These calls became a sanctuary for both of them, a space where they could express their fears, frustrations, and dreams without the prying eyes of the media. Jackson’s former bodyguard, Matt Fiddes, described these conversations as profound, suggesting that Jackson was “in love” with Diana in a way that transcended romantic feelings. He felt that she was the only person who could truly understand the isolation and scrutiny they both faced.
The pressures of fame weighed heavily on both Jackson and Diana. Diana, often referred to as the most photographed woman in the world, struggled with the relentless attention of the paparazzi. Her marriage to Prince Charles was fraught with challenges, and the media’s portrayal of her life often felt invasive and cruel. Jackson, too, faced similar scrutiny. His ever-changing appearance and eccentric behavior led tabloids to speculate endlessly about his life, often distorting the truth.
In their late-night conversations, they found solace in each other’s company. They shared stories of their experiences with the media, expressing their mutual distrust of the growing paparazzi presence in their lives. “We shared something in common, with the press,” Jackson reflected. “I don’t think they hounded anyone more than her and myself.” This shared understanding created a bond that was both comforting and empowering.
Despite only meeting in person a handful of times, their friendship endured until Diana’s tragic death on August 31, 1997. Jackson was devastated by the news, recalling how he fell to the ground in grief upon hearing of her passing. The loss of his friend prompted him to postpone a scheduled performance of his HIStory tour, a testament to the profound impact Diana had on his life.
When Jackson returned to the stage, he dedicated his performance to Diana, singing “Gone Too Soon,” a song he had written for Ryan White, a young boy who had died of AIDS. This dedication was not only a tribute to Diana but also a reflection of their shared commitment to raising awareness about important social issues. Both Jackson and Diana had used their platforms to destigmatize AIDS and advocate for those affected by the disease, demonstrating their compassion and humanity.
Jackson was not present at Diana’s London funeral, which was attended by many of her close friends, including Elton John and George Michael. However, he did attend a memorial service held in Los Angeles, where he expressed his love for Diana to reporters. “I’m here in honor of my friend who is no longer here… I love her,” he said, a poignant reminder of the bond they shared.
In the years that followed, Jackson often reflected on their friendship. In 2003, he described Diana as “one of the sweetest people I’ve ever known,” emphasizing their connection and the comfort they found in each other’s company. Their late-night calls, filled with laughter and tears, became a cherished memory for Jackson, a reminder of the understanding and support they provided one another.
The friendship between Michael Jackson and Princess Diana serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of human connection, even in the face of overwhelming fame and public scrutiny. Their late-night conversations, filled with vulnerability and empathy, allowed them to navigate the challenges of their lives with grace and resilience.
In the wake of Jackson’s death in 2009, the true depth of his friendship with Diana became a topic of reflection and speculation. While the exact content of their late-night conversations remains unknown, the impact they had on each other’s lives is undeniable. Their shared experiences of fame, compassion, and a desire to make a difference in the world created a bond that transcended the superficiality often associated with celebrity culture.
As we reflect on the lives of Michael Jackson and Princess Diana, we are reminded that behind the public personas and the media narratives, there were two individuals who sought solace in each other’s understanding. Their friendship, characterized by late-night phone calls and shared vulnerabilities, serves as a testament to the power of human connection in a world often dominated by fame and scrutiny.
In a society that frequently idolizes celebrity, the story of Jackson and Diana reminds us of the importance of empathy, compassion, and the need for genuine connections. Their legacy continues to inspire us to look beyond the surface and recognize the shared humanity that binds us all, regardless of our status or circumstances. As we remember their contributions to the world, let us also honor the friendship that brought them together, a bond that will forever remain etched in the annals of history.
Michael Jackson’s brother, a member of the Jackson 5 group, dies at age 70
American media reported that music star Tito Jackson passed away on September 16. His three children, Taj, Taryll and TJ, shared on social media: “Our father was a wonderful man. We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Tito Jackson, is no longer with us.”
In the eyes of his children, Tito was a wonderful man who always cared and loved those around him. His children added: “You may know him as Tito Jackson of the legendary Jackson 5, some may know him as ‘Coach Tito’ or some call him ‘Poppa T’.”Â
Tito’s children hope that people will always remember Tito and that they themselves will always have the best feelings for their father. “We will always remember the lessons you taught us. We love you, Dad,” the children of the late artist wrote in the statement.Â
Before his death, the 70-year-old star toured with his two brothers Jackie and Marlon in Germany in early September. The three Jackson brothers also visited the memorial site for star Michael Jackson.
In his last post on his personal page, Tito shared a photo of him visiting his late brother Michael Jackson.Â
Tito Jackson is the third child in the Jackson family. He is considered a core member of the Jackson 5 group with Michael Jackson. In addition to his brilliant career with the family band, he also has an admirable personal career.Â
Tito began his own career in 2002 as a blues singer and produced the acclaimed documentary about the Jackson family – The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty in 2009 after Michael Jackson’s sudden death.
He released the album Tito Time in 2016 and the album Under Your Spell in 2021.Â
Tito and his partner, Delores “Dee Dee” Martes, had three sons together. His children, Taj, Taryll, and TJ, also continued the family tradition, forming a band called 3T in 1995. The group released three successful albums, and singer TJ also had a successful solo music career.Â
In a 2016 interview, Tito expressed that he always considered his brothers in the Jackson family as teammates. “No matter what, no matter when, no matter where, I’m always ready for my brothers,” he denied rumors of a discordant relationship between the brothers in the family.Â
