Surprise Defense Witness Says Woman Suing Cardi B ‘Was At Fault’
Witness Testimony of Miss Malcolm Regarding the Incident Involving Cardi B and Miss Ellis (February 2018)
My name is Peter Anderson, and I was questioning Miss Malcolm in court regarding an incident that occurred in February 2018.
Miss Malcolm testified that at the time, she was working as a front desk receptionist at Woman’s Care OB-GYN. On a Saturday in February 2018, the office had been purposefully closed to other patients in order to maintain privacy for a special appointment—that appointment was for Cardi B.
As Miss Malcolm was waiting for Cardi B to arrive, she heard a commotion in the hallway outside the office. Curious and concerned, she opened the nearby exit door and saw Cardi B backed against a wall, engaged in a heated verbal altercation with another woman—Miss Ellis, a medical staff member who also worked in the building.
According to Miss Malcolm, both women were arguing loudly, with Miss Ellis yelling profanities and insults, including, “B** this, B**** that**.” The situation was intense and disruptive. Wanting to deescalate, Miss Malcolm quickly approached the two and stood between them. She told Miss Ellis, “You’re at work, go back to your post.“
Despite her attempts to calm things down, Miss Malcolm reported that Miss Ellis refused to back away, continuing to shout and argue. Miss Malcolm noticed Cardi B remained behind her, and though there was some flailing of hands, no actual hits landed between the two women. However, Miss Malcolm herself received a scratch on her forehead, which she didn’t notice until later when a nurse pointed it out. She assumed it might have happened in the chaos, possibly from Cardi B, though she clarified this was just a guess.
Eventually, Dr. Finicky, the doctor at the clinic, came out into the hallway. He also told Miss Ellis to return to work, expressing surprise that she was up there arguing with a patient. With this distraction, Miss Malcolm escorted Cardi B into her exam room, trying to bring the incident to a close.
During the encounter, Miss Malcolm clearly observed Miss Ellis’s face and stated under oath that she saw no cuts, bruises, blood, or signs of injury or spit. She confirmed that she did not hear Cardi B curse or use the N-word. She also stated that she did not witness Cardi B hitting, scratching, or assaulting Miss Ellis in any way during the incident.
Later that weekend, the clinic made an official incident report to building management, in order to document what had happened and ensure patient privacy policies were maintained.
A few months after the incident, Miss Malcolm received a phone call from Miss Ellis, who was upset that she had been fired. Miss Ellis asked Miss Malcolm if she could support her in some way, implying she might be planning to sue Cardi B. Miss Malcolm declined to get involved, stating it was her place of work and she didn’t want any part in the legal conflict. She also expressed surprise at the call, as she believed Miss Ellis had been at fault.
