When astronomers at the ATLAS survey in Chile first spotted a faint, fast-moving speck of light on July 1, 2025, they knew it wasn’t ordinary. The object’s orbit was hyperbolic — open, unbound to our Sun — meaning it had come from beyond the solar system. The discovery marked only the third confirmed interstellar visitor ever detected, following the famous ʻOumuamua in 2017 and 2I/Borisov in 2019.
