After 61 Years, This Bewitched Scene Can FINALLY Be Shown!

It’s been over six decades since Bewitched first cast its spell on American television, but now — in a twist worthy of Samantha herself — fans are finally getting a peek at a long-lost, never-before-seen scene that’s been buried in the vault for 61 years.

And the reason it was hidden? You won’t believe it.

The Scene That “Vanished”

According to TV historians and classic sitcom researchers, the scene comes from Season 1, Episode 4, originally filmed in 1964 but heavily edited before airing due to concerns from network censors.

“It wasn’t scandalous by today’s standards,” one archival producer explains.
“But in 1964? It was considered risky.”

The scene reportedly featured Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) and Darrin (Dick York) in a rarely seen moment of marital intimacy — nothing explicit, just too much leg, a passionate kiss, and a bedroom door that wasn’t closed.

Why It Was Cut

ABC executives at the time deemed the scene “too suggestive” for prime-time TV. Keep in mind, this was an era when married couples on TV often slept in separate beds, and showing even mild affection behind closed doors was considered pushing the envelope.

“We were dealing with a witch married to a mortal — that alone raised eyebrows,” a surviving crew member once said in a 1980s interview.
“They didn’t want witchcraft and sexuality mixing on TV.”

As a result, the scene was cut from the master tape and thought to be lost — until now.

How It Was Found

Fast-forward to 2025: an archivist working on the 4K restoration of the original series discovered a film reel mislabeled as a rehearsal.

Upon viewing it, they found the complete, unedited bedroom scene — still intact, never aired, and surprisingly modern in tone.

“It’s sweet, funny, and ahead of its time,” the archivist said.
“Montgomery and York had incredible chemistry — and this scene proves it.”

When & Where You Can See It

The scene will officially debut during the upcoming Bewitched 60th Anniversary Collector’s Edition Box Set, and a restored version will also air as part of TCM’s “TV Time Capsule” special next month.

Classic TV fans are already buzzing online:

“This is TV history. Bewitched changed sitcoms forever — and now we get to see what the network was too scared to show.”

Final Thoughts

In an era of streaming and complete transparency, it’s hard to imagine a kiss or a flirty moment getting censored — but back then, Bewitched was not only magical, it was controversial.

And now, 61 years later, we finally get to see the spellbinding scene that was simply too bold for 1964.
