WWE Wrestlers Getting Into Real Fights Backstage
WWE Wrestlers Getting Into Real Fights Backstage
We all know WWE is scripted inside the ring — but behind the curtain, things can get very real.
Egos clash, tempers flare, and sometimes, fists fly.
Here are some of the most infamous real backstage fights in WWE history, where the drama didn’t end when the cameras stopped rolling.
1. Chris Jericho vs. Brock Lesnar (2016)
At SummerSlam 2016, Brock Lesnar busted open Randy Orton with some real elbows. Backstage, Chris Jericho was furious — thinking Brock went too far.
The two got into a legit argument backstage. Reports say Jericho confronted Lesnar and demanded answers. Lesnar allegedly told him to “mind his business,” and things escalated quickly.
It was so tense that Triple H and Vince McMahon had to step in and separate them.
Jericho may not be the biggest guy, but he’s never been afraid to speak up — even to Brock Lesnar.
2. Booker T vs. Batista (2006)
This one was an actual fistfight — and no, it wasn’t part of a storyline.
During a commercial shoot for SummerSlam, tensions boiled over between Booker T and Batista. Multiple reports say Booker felt Batista had developed an ego after becoming champion. Words were exchanged, and it turned physical.
According to several accounts, Booker T “got the better” of Batista in the scuffle.
Afterward, both men reportedly settled the beef and even joked about it — but make no mistake, this was a full-blown locker room brawl.
3. Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle (2004)
Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle were known for their technical brilliance in the ring — but also for their fiery personalities.
After a match in 2004, they got into an argument over timing and miscommunication. Backstage, it turned physical when Eddie reportedly slapped Kurt, who took him down with a quick wrestling hold.
The fight didn’t last long — mostly because Kurt was an Olympic gold medalist and could shoot-wrestle anyone into submission. But the respect between the two eventually smoothed things over.
4. JBL vs. The Blue Meanie (2005)
At ECW One Night Stand, the chaos turned real when JBL started legitimately punching The Blue Meanie during a post-match brawl.
Meanie later claimed JBL busted him open on purpose, taking advantage of the confusion.
This led to real-life tension and even a storyline follow-up on SmackDown, where JBL had to work a match with Meanie as part of the fallout.
5. Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart (1997)
No surprise here — the Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart feud wasn’t just on-screen.
In 1997, just months before the Montreal Screwjob, the two reportedly got into a real backstage fight, where Shawn had a chunk of his hair pulled out.
The personal tension was sky-high. Bret accused Shawn of being unprofessional and disrespectful, and neither man held back.
Their off-screen animosity remains one of the most legendary — and bitter — rivalries in wrestling history.
Final Thoughts
Behind the scenes, WWE isn’t always the “safe” environment people imagine. With huge egos, physical stress, and 300 days a year on the road, conflict is inevitable — and sometimes, it boils over.
Whether it’s a quick scuffle or a full-on fight, these moments remind fans that when the cameras stop rolling, the real drama begins.
