Chadwick Boseman’s Widow Reacts to His Emotional Walk of Fame Honor

Chadwick Boseman has officially been immortalized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, receiving the 2,828th star—an honor that moved many to tears, including those closest to him. The ceremony was filled with powerful tributes that celebrated not only Boseman’s work but also his remarkable spirit.

His widow, Simone Ledward Boseman, opened up about the overwhelming emotion of witnessing her husband’s legacy literally cemented into Hollywood history.

“There’s a myriad of emotions,” she said. “I’m having a lot of big feelings right now. But I think everyone who came today was able to share in celebrating the spirit that Chad is.”

She echoed Viola Davis’s sentiment that it still feels impossible to speak of him in the past tense. “I can’t use the word ‘gone’ or ‘death’ when thinking about him,” she said. “I think a lot of people who experience loss feel the same way because we still feel them. We know they’re here, still moving.”

Simone shared that director Ryan Coogler’s tribute especially touched her. “Ryan got me—he usually does,” she laughed softly. She also reflected on the book she gifted him, one she kept with her every day during their work together.

“It was a really beautiful day,” she said. “I’m so proud of the work Chad has done in his life, and the work he continues to do in spirit.”

When asked what qualities she hopes the next Black Panther will embody, Simone answered without hesitation: “Discernment.”

She added, “It’s a heavy mantle to carry. Chad’s life—all the steps he took—led him to that role. He carried that spirit. T’Challa was him. He was a king. He held himself high. He was wise.”

She emphasized kindness and generosity as essential traits. “The biggest pillar of Chad, even compared to his leadership, was his generosity,” she said, recalling how Boseman attended every audition she asked him to, even after he had already been cast.
