Diane Keaton’s cause of death has been officially revealed.
Her family shared a statement with People magazine confirming that the beloved actress passed away from pneumonia on October 11th.
The statement reads, in part:
“The Keaton family is deeply grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11th.”
News of the Hollywood icon’s passing broke over the weekend. Keaton was 79 years old.
Diane Keaton first made her mark on Hollywood in the 1970s with her unforgettable performances in The Godfather films and her collaborations with Woody Allen. In 1978, she won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Allen’s Annie Hall.
Throughout her decades-long career, Keaton continued to leave an indelible mark on the film industry, starring in beloved movies such as The First Wives Club, Father of the Bride, Something’s Gotta Give, and many more.

Following her death, Access Hollywood spoke with her Something’s Gotta Give co-star, Keanu Reeves, who reflected fondly on their time working together.
“Yeah… I just feel really lucky to have had the chance to work with such a wonderful person and artist,” Reeves said. “I have so many great memories, but one in particular was being in a scene with both Diane and Jack Nicholson — just watching their friendship, their connection, and the way they enjoyed each other’s company. It was really special.”
