The Grey’s Anatomy family is standing strong beside Eric Dane as he faces one of the toughest challenges of his life — his public battle with ALS.
In heartfelt messages shared this week, several of Eric’s former co-stars expressed their love and support for the actor, who became a household name as Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on the hit medical drama.
“I reached out to him via text and he got back with me,” one castmate shared. “I told him I was thinking of him and that my prayers are with him. We’re just putting our arms around Eric and letting him know he’s not alone in this battle.”
That sense of connection and loyalty — both on and off-screen — has long defined the Grey’s Anatomy cast.
“The main thing that people talk about around here is that sense of family,” another co-star said. “And we’re going to be that, no matter what.”
Eric’s on-screen partner, Kim Raver, who played Dr. Teddy Altman, also paid tribute to her former co-star, recalling their memorable season 6 storyline when Sloan and Teddy’s chemistry captured fans’ hearts — and his emotional season 9 farewell.

“He’s such a talent,” Raver said. “He could juggle incredible dramatic moments and then turn around and deliver those steamy, charming scenes effortlessly.”
It was back in season 3 that Eric Dane earned his now-iconic nickname, “McSteamy,” after his unforgettable towel-clad entrance — a scene that instantly became TV legend.
“Not everyone would agree to stand there in just a towel,” one of the show’s producers laughed. “But Eric? He was down for it. That was his confidence, that was his charm — that’s who he was.”
Over 110 episodes later, Eric’s legacy as one of Grey’s Anatomy’s most beloved characters remains undeniable. His charisma, humor, and heart left a lasting imprint on both fans and colleagues alike.

When the cast and creator Shonda Rhimes gathered to celebrate the show’s 450th episode, complete with a hospital-bed-shaped cake, many reflected on what made Grey’s special — and Eric Dane’s contribution was at the very top of that list.
“This is legendary,” James Pickens Jr. said at the event. “It’s a level of achievement that’s just rare. And Eric was a big part of why this show will always be remembered.”
As Eric battles ALS, his Grey’s Anatomy family — and millions of fans around the world — are standing with him, sending love, strength, and gratitude to the man who made McSteamy a name we’ll never forget
