Keanu Reeves has long been known not only as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, but also as a passionate motorcycle enthusiast. For him, bikes are not just machines – they are memories, freedom, and deeply personal companions. They’re even a part of his cinematic legacy.

From Childhood Memories to Lifelong Passion

Reeves grew up in Toronto, where every summer motorcycle gangs would ride into a neighborhood called Yorkville. The sight of those roaring bikes and rebellious riders left a deep impression on the 10-year-old boy. He first learned to ride in Munich, borrowing an Enduro from a young woman who taught him the basics. By 1986–87, after moving to Los Angeles, he bought his first motorcycle – and the passion was set in motion.

The Norton Commando – His Early Treasure

Among his most cherished possessions is the 1973 Mark 2A Norton Commando, the second motorcycle he ever bought in Los Angeles. For Reeves, it’s more than a bike – it’s a symbol of youth and countless unforgettable rides. “It’s got a beautiful sound, the smell of heated oil, and it’s tied to so many good memories,” Reeves says.

Bikes on the Big Screen

Motorcycles have also followed him onto film sets. From Chain Reaction and My Own Private Idaho to John Wick: Chapter 3, Reeves has often found ways to merge his personal passion with his characters. Most iconic of all is the green Ducati 998 featured in The Matrix Reloaded – a bike painted in a custom “Matrix green,” forever linked to Carrie-Anne Moss’s legendary chase scene.

Arch Motorcycle – A Dream Realized

Reeves’s love for bikes eventually led him to co-found Arch Motorcycle with custom builder Gard Hollinger. It all began when Reeves wanted to personalize his Harley Davidson, and Hollinger built a one-off custom around its engine. That prototype evolved into Arch, a company dedicated to building handcrafted, high-end motorcycles.

Their flagship models, the KRGT-1 and 1-S, combine over 200 billet aluminum parts with top-tier components from brands like Ohlins, BST, S&S, Rizoma, and Michelin. Arch’s latest concept, the Method 143, is an outrageous creation featuring a carbon fiber monocoque frame and a massive 143 cubic-inch engine. “It’s wild,” Reeves admits, “but that’s the fun of it.”

Freedom on Two Wheels

For Reeves, riding a motorcycle is pure liberation: the wind, the vibration, the growl of the engine. It’s a visceral experience that grounds him. He even jokes that when he doesn’t ride for a while, he goes through “withdrawals.”

“Being on a bike is a great place to think, to feel, to get away from it all,” Reeves says.

Advice for New Riders

The John Wick star also shares some advice for beginners: start small. “Get a bike that’s comfortable, where you can put your feet on the ground. Don’t jump on a high-powered sport bike right away. Be confident, don’t let the bike overwhelm you too quickly – and most importantly, have fun.”
