In the glittering world of Hollywood, where egos often expand alongside fame, Keanu Reeves has chosen a different path. In a rare and personal conversation, the actor opened up about his career, passions, and the way he keeps life grounded despite decades of stardom.
Keeping Ego in Check
When asked how he manages the ego that comes with being a global star, Reeves smiled humbly: “I’m a pretty simple guy. Ever since I was a kid, I just wanted to act. I started professionally at 15, and I’ve been really lucky to have the chance at a career. I’ve always tried to keep it simple.”

Behind that humility is quiet determination. At 20, he drove straight from Toronto to Los Angeles to chase his Hollywood dream—a journey that would launch a career spanning decades.
The Nerves Never Go Away
Despite being one of the most seasoned actors in the industry, Reeves admits he still feels nervous at the start of every project. “It’s a strange mix of nerves and excitement. The moment the director says ‘Action!’—you don’t know what will happen. That’s thrilling.”
He emphasized the importance of chemistry on set: “If you don’t connect with your co-stars, it’s not very enjoyable. But sometimes, something unexpected comes out of it. I’ve been fortunate to really connect with most of the people I’ve worked with.”
A Lifelong Love of Acting
When asked about retirement, Reeves chuckled: “I hope I get to play a grandfather at 68. I love working, so hopefully I’ll get the chance to keep doing it.”
Off set, he often enjoys movies as an ordinary fan—buying popcorn, sitting in packed theaters, and soaking up the atmosphere. “I love that experience. Watching a film with an audience is magical.”
Music, Travel, and Motorcycles
Reeves isn’t just an actor; he once played bass for the band Dogstar, releasing a couple of albums before the group disbanded. Music still plays a big role in his life, with his playlists ranging from Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem to John Coltrane, Fugazi, and even the ethereal works of Arvo Pärt.

When not working, Reeves finds freedom in travel and motorcycles. “I’ve got a couple of Nortons and a custom bike. Riding solo or with friends—it’s incredible.” Bhutan, Europe, and most recently Uruguay, are among the destinations that left a mark on him.
Stepping Behind the Camera
Reeves also tried his hand at directing with the martial arts film Man of Tai Chi. “I love cinema. I love actors. I love telling a story through the camera. Directing felt natural—it was about finding the right shot and telling the story.”
And, of course, fans know him best for his role in John Wick, the character that brought a new intensity to his career. Reeves described John Wick as “a man in grief who discovers another side of himself—the assassin within.”

Facing Success and Failure
For Reeves, success feels rewarding, but failure cuts deep. “When you put your heart into a project and it doesn’t turn out the way you hoped, that’s devastating. But it’s part of the profession. You just hope people enjoy the work.”
A Star, A Human Being
Through it all, Reeves remains remarkably grounded. He keeps his life simple, true to his passions, and filled with gratitude for the journey.
At 60, Keanu Reeves is living proof that a star can shine brilliantly without losing his humility. For him, happiness comes down to the essentials: cinema, music, friendship, travel, and the open road on a motorcycle.
