In a recent interview, Keanu Reeves opened up about his experience voicing Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He revealed that the process brought him a lot of joy, from doing four to five voice recording sessions to working closely with director Jeff Fowler. Reeves praised Fowler’s passion and knowledge, noting how much he appreciated the freedom to collaborate and explore the character.

Talking about Shadow, Reeves couldn’t hide his excitement:

“Shadow is intense. I’m really excited for the world to see this character in action.”

But the sweetest moment came when Reeves was reminded of a compliment from his co-star Jim Carrey. In a previous interview, Carrey had said:

“Keanu is the man that every man aspires to be.”

At first, Reeves was surprised, responding: “No, he didn’t.” When the interviewer confirmed, he laughed and humbly replied:

“He’s very kind and very generous. That speaks to Jim’s beautiful heart. He’s a creative genius—truly a genius. And in this film, he’s even more genius, double genius, because he’s playing two roles.”

Reeves also shared that the first time he really had the chance to spend time with Carrey was at the Sonic 3 premiere in London. Before that, they had only crossed paths socially once, years ago.

When asked about his “bucket list” for 2025, Reeves gave a characteristically thoughtful—and slightly humorous—answer:

“I don’t want to have a bucket list. I don’t want to kick the bucket, and I don’t want to put anything in the bucket either. I don’t know. I just want to live and experience.”
