Police say the incident began when two drivers, including suspect Thomas Johns, were traveling on the I-11 to the 215 Beltway and began jockeying for position. At one point, the victim’s vehicle was in front of Johns’, who then allegedly accelerated and fired at the back window, striking Brandon Dominguez, who was inside the car.

Witnesses described tense moments leading up to the shooting, noting that the drivers were aggressively maneuvering in the emergency lane. The area of the 215 was temporarily shut down as investigators processed the scene.

During a bond hearing on Tuesday, a police detective testified that Johns was the aggressor. However, his attorney argued that the shooting was accidental. Johns is scheduled to appear in court after the holiday.
