Luigi Manion Appears Smiling in Court During Key Hearing
Luigi Manion, accused of fatally shooting United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in 2024, appeared in court Monday, December 1st, for a significant hearing regarding evidence in his state trial.

Manion’s legal team is seeking to exclude certain evidence, including a personal journal, arguing that police failed to immediately read his Miranda rights and searched his backpack without a proper warrant. Prosecutors, however, have denied these claims.

Photos from inside Manhattan Criminal Court captured the 27-year-old smiling at one of his attorneys. For the hearing, Manion wore a gray suit jacket with a plaid shirt underneath, and reports indicate his handcuffs were removed.

The hearings are expected to span several days, with both the defense and prosecution set to call witnesses.

Manion faces both state and federal charges. He achieved a legal victory in September, when a New York state judge dismissed the terrorism-related charges due to insufficient evidence. Manion has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
