In one of the most emotional moments of the season, Robert Irwin brought the audience — and himself — to tears as he dedicated his latest dance performance to his mother, Terri Irwin, and the legacy of his late father, Steve Irwin.

After the performance, Robert, visibly emotional, admitted,

“I didn’t get through that without the tears flowing. It felt scary, beautiful, powerful — and like a way to say thank you to someone who deserves all the recognition. This dance is for my mom, and for all the moms of the world.”

The 20-year-old conservationist opened up about how his mother has been the cornerstone of the Irwin family since Steve’s tragic passing in 2006.

“People always ask about my dad and his legacy — and it’s incredible. But his legacy wouldn’t be here without my mom,” Robert said. “When we lost Dad, she was the one who said, ‘Everything he lived and died for will continue.’ It’s the honor of my lifetime to carry that forward.”

As the crowd cheered, Robert’s sister Bindi Irwin joined him on stage, adding to the emotional power of the night.

“Mom has kept our family together. She’s the reason,” Robert reflected. “She is true strength, and I’ll remember this moment for the rest of my life.”

Robert’s partner, Witney Carson, also shared her admiration, calling Terri “a light” and describing how they designed the choreography to honor the deep connection between mother and son.

But it wasn’t just about dance — it was about vulnerability. Robert spoke candidly about how difficult it can be to show emotion publicly.

“It’s really hard to be vulnerable,” he said. “I’ve always tried to put out positivity, but we all go through grief and pain. What defines you isn’t the struggle — it’s how you move through it.”
